Id take Blount and having that 1st round pick back though.
Hmmm........
If Blount was that great, we would never considered picking Martin that high.Short memories around here.
And Schiano knew this how? Surely it was from their years of working together, oops wait, it was the training camp failures and the bad preseason, no wait, When the hell did Schiano decide Blount was not great? Before he ever saw or coached him he had already sold out on him and drafted Doug. It's clear that Schiano decided Blount wasn't that great without coaching him but then again, he's the one who eventually got fired.

Tape? Evaluations? Personnel department? Dom? Take your pick.

I don't think its a case of Schiano thinking Blount was not that great. Its all the other stuff.

Hmmm........
Someone needed to say it and yeah. Alshon Jeffrey? Coby Fleener? Cordy Glenn? Bobby Wagner?
Because those guys are exactly who we would have taken instead. And it's not like we ended up with a bum either.
Also, we didn't have a first round to get back. We traded FOR the first round pick. We would have had an extra second round and a 4th or 5th round pick, forgot which. Either way, it's not a first rounder and we would not have traded up to just pick up some guy so they're not wanting shit back, they're wanting an entirely alternate universe.

My pick? Why should I pick. My point was that he picked with no personal knowledge if his choice was right or wrong. Whatever he used failed obviously. Maybe had he relied on his own judgement of the personnel who held his fate in their hands, he would have made better choices. Who knows?Clearly, a player can out perform his tape for a new coach. This isn't the first timen that's happened. That's why a new coach takes the time to know who he's working with else he becomes a former coach.

Sure, and he never used him much once he saw that the other stuff wasn't going to change. I don't fault him for that. I am pointing out that he'd cut bait on the kid before he even tried to see if he could fix the other stuff and ended up with the player he was afraid he had. Someone else did the work and got an entirely different player. You do agree with my point. It wasn't a case of him not being that great which is what the post I originally replied to stated.

Dom knew Blount before he got here so I'm sure he asked about him. Schiano knew what he wanted in a RB and Blount obviously wasn't what he wanted because he traded in to first round to get the RB he wanted. And how did he fail obviously when Blount was buried on the NE RB depth chart until the last two weeks?
Here's the thing about bashing Schiano, for not getting through to Blount - and I'm not here to be an apologist for the guy:The original article for this news indicated that it wasn't just Schiano, but coaches "for years" have been telling him this. So yeah, bash Schiano (and Raheem), and praise Belichick because they are the HCs. But here's the thing - Chip Kelly was one of those coaches. Jeff Fisher was one of those coaches. Ernest F----ing Byner was his running back coach. So was it a problem with Schiano, or a problem with Blount? If you ask me, Blount's listening skills improved because his $1.75 million salary with the Bucs got chopped to the vet minimum in a take it or leave it situation. Funny how that can change behavior. I'd also point out that dalbuc is exactly right - Blount is exactly the same guy. I read that they ran the ball in all but 4 of his 28 snaps - nobody trusts Blount to keep Brady upright. Look, I love watching him play - there's sheer joy out of watching a big back run like that, but the reality is he had huge holes. And I wish he would have worked out. But none of his short-yardage TDs were as impressive as Ridley's efforts, and here's what his big run looked like at the line of scrimmage:

So he relied on the advice of the other fired guy. I think I see the problem here. And he did fail because Doug is better than him so he was buried on the depth chart. When he was the next man up, he couldn't produce. The difference is when his number came up in NE he was able to produce the same performances he has always produced when getting enough touches. He is Legarrett Blount. That's not going to change.and that can get you a boatload of highlight tape when used correctly. Schiano NEVER got that out of him. He never even tried. He never believed he could.Anyway, my entire point was that it's stupid to say that if he was any good we would have kept him when that didn't happen Or do you believe if Brees was any good he'd still be a Charger? Teams don't always pick the best guy. Now, I do believe we kept the better guy but I don't believe that the decision went down that way. Plus, as noted above. There was room for both.

I hear ya, and yes, I am agreeing with you.
This perfectly summed up my reaction when Blount was shipped to NE, accent and all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhQst2mFlJM

He relied on the GM that brought the guy in. The GM he was working with at the time. Schiano wanted a guy he could trust with the ball and trust in pass pro, Blount was never that guy here. People forget that he had a fumbling problem. That's something we rarely saw with Schiano's RBs. You can't say that he didn't give Blount a chance either because Blount was here for a year and let DJ Ware take a job that could have been his. If Blount worked on doing the other things well he could earned his time on the field because it's not like DJ Ware was worth a damn.

Blount with coaches not named Schiano:538 carries 2560 yards 4.75 ypc 18tdBlount under Schiano:41 carries 151 yards 3.7 ypc 2 td'sWonder what that means? Is Blount closer to the production of his 4 years with anyone not named Schiano or is the the pedestrian plodder who only earned 41 carries under Greg?Either everyone else got damned lucky or he was better than Greg thought. Greg got rid of him and since I don't believe that all the other coaches just got lucky, the Buccaneers did not get rid of him because he wasn't any good. They got rid of him because his coach wasn't any good. Big difference.
Wasn't what he wanted. Schiano wanted a 3 down back. That's not Blount.
Since I was looking it up:70 carries 312 yards 4.45 ypc 2 td'sThis was by week 9 this season so even buried deep on New Englands roster he outperformed his full uninjured season under Schiano.
