No need to trade Rainey. It will be really nice to have depth at the RB position with Martin, James and Rainey and we need to use them and play to their skill sets so not to overwork Martin. All 3 guys are talented and can produce
I would rather trade Martin for a 2nd rounder. Keep Rainey and James and get a decent big back in here so we don't get shut out whenever we play a physical defense. Martin James and Rainey = no balance and no change of pace.

How are they different than Thomas, Ingram, and Sproles? That trio has been pretty damn effective for the Saints.
Smith over Rainey? Why?
Say they view Rainey and Doug as #1 RB's. And Smith and James as competent backups. You might as well try to get something for one of the starting caliber RB's. Give him a chance to blow up somewhere, and get a draft pick out of the deal. There is another side to being a GM, besides contracts and player evaluation. Its sayin to a young player, we love you, but you will never get your carries here. Give it hell with the Jets or Browns or whoever.
Smith may have some value as a return guy but is probably camp fodder at this point. As far as Rainey goes, you don't trade away your only healthy RB. If anything, Martin has the most trade value, but Martin/ James/ Rainey is a nice stable to have.
We finally have a solid stable of RBs and you guys wanna trade one away? Smh.
