Going for it on 4th down from our own 35? (I know Fire was about to start a thread on this!)
No playing for overtime? (Kill shot, baby.)
More press coverage (3 should've been INTs)
Just one game, but is it a sign of the future?
What's next, a win in PRIMETIME? End the "BadaBing Curse!)
:-)
That TD saving play at the end was all Bowles. Not AWJ.
We are in good hands with Todd B.
The usual Bowles critics (the same ones who have previously posted that the HC is responsible for EVERYTHING when something negative has happened) will now post stuff like ..
"he only went for it on 4th down because Licht forced him to hire an analytics guy"
"He didn't agree with the 2nd TD pass, he wanted FG and overtime... the team is revolting against him "
lol
lol

lmao. Love it.
IBWT - In Bowles We Trust. It's on the dollar bill, I think.
Damn I'm catching strays... I thought Bowles did some things well and then he did his usual stupid shit like calling a TO so they could challenge a catch.
I overall thought he coaches a much better defensive game until (of course) it mattered most and he shit the bed.
McDropem gotta catch picks.
I'd have to look again but I'm pretty sure he did a handful of all out blitzes where nobody got in...
Dennis proved a liability most of the game but Bijan will do that to a lot of people.
Overall I'd give Bowles a B for the game. Glad he went for it.

haha yes! kill that prime time curse!
honestly, our offense did not play much in preseason so i expected the sluggish start and we were butt cheeks in first half and we overcame that.
Our all time great kicker was putrid yesterday and we overcame that
We looked pathetic on the first drive on defense down 7-0 but we tightened up and we overcame that.
I was incredibly impressed with the heart of the defense in the drive where we gave up the lead where the falcons went up 20-17. A drive where Atlanta was given 30 yards on two roughing the passer penalties. A drive where a ruled fumble was overturned. A drive where we stopped them on 4th but offsetting penalties gave them another play. So you can argue we need to better disciplined but they gave it their all on that drive.
and of course, i was impressed with what we come to expect as normal....a Baker come back game winning drive...so despite us not having much success through the air - our second half offense woke up (first drive was a missed field goal, second drive a touchdown, third drive a punt, and 4th drive a touchdown)
Hopefully the offensive struggles were just rust and we have shaken that off and dont start that way this next week.
A good start, none the less.
One particular critic said Bowles' main problem was he has a very low IQ.
Balanced assessment, I’d agree.Damn I'm catching strays... I thought Bowles did some things well and then he did his usual stupid shit like calling a TO so they could challenge a catch.

Bake was off, probably did need some preseason work, but those two TD passes to Egbuka (especially the last one) were awesome.
Overall, a lot of work, but we got a win with a makeshift line, against an aggressive defense, which showed some problems in run blocking. Did pretty well in pass blocking, for the most part.
Stellar plays some key players, including the off-ball play by Mike Evans (which obviously opened a lot for Egbuka), will force defenses to respect BOTH WR’s.
That AWJ play was critical, and announces he’s a game wrecker again.
Lots of stuff to work on, but they found a way to win a tough one, against our main divisional competitor.
Texas is shaping up to be a bar fight. But this game gives me some hope that things are getting better on a lot of fronts…while we wait for some key pieces to get back in the lineup.

Both great takes. Kudos. WT, some of the items where I added bold really stuck out to me too.
On Evans, there are probably not enough superlatives for the guy but to be where he is in HIS career and still very productive and, as you suggest, a real team player. well, the Bucs found a great one in Evans, one of our best.
We just have to get through the early games here and get the run game going because how do you defend a Bucs offense that is a top run game AND then Evans, Egbuka, Godwin? Any choice by the opposing DC is poison. Commit to stopping Irving/White and get blown apart by Evans, Godwin and Egbuka. Drop into a shell and get the ball run at you for 5+ ypc.
all only potential at the moment, but much better than the alternative lol
Ben Johnson is a demigod to some. And not only that, he is lauded for his smarts and his creativity . . . appropriately so, in my view.
welp . . maybe they will hire an egg head for him ;-)
"Many on social media skewered Johnson in his Bears coaching debut for not having his kicker boot the ball out of bounds to preserve the valuable two seconds before the two-minute warning, thus gaining essentially another timeout, or at least trying for an onside kick."
What a wild game. You could see the POSITIVE of Ben Johnson in William early (scripted?) play. "Just complete passes," was the mantra." Then the negative of Williams arrives.
On the other side, JJ McCarthy cant even get the team lined up and the snap off in time for much of the game. . . but then late gains some basic confidence.
roller coaster . . .
for those keeping score that is Todd Bowles going for it on 4th in his onw end and Ben Jo CHOKING a 4th qtr decision
Loved the Bowles speech in the locker room after the game......yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!
Was impressed he didn't punt on that 4th down play. There were other things I liked that he did during the game, you mentioned. Another thing was the use of time-outs I think whoever helping him did a good job. No complaints here, now lets see if he can keep it up the other 16 games.
If the outcome goes the other way, I'd hate to say it but I'd have to blame the kicker. Lucky for him we held up

The only thing I noticed on the timeouts was one of them took too long to call. Seven seconds ticked off the clock before Bowles called the TO. Not sure if that was function of him hesitating and being indecisive or just the logistics of the new guy helping not being as efficient as it should be.
It ended up not mattering, but it could have.
