Chris Simms made the point last season that Bowles was too committed to run stopping and needed to take more chances to generate pressure
Bowles seems to agree
”We’ve got to help them more as a coaching staff. Instead of playing run-heavy type of things and then converting to the pass, we need to just set those guys free a little bit more as well. As a staff standpoint, that was one of the things we can do well and I think Larry can help out with that.”
Tbh i didn't mind as much as we did play a lot of mobile qbs that could hurt us, we had to sort of play with a lot of gap integrity and puhsing the pocket moreso instead of losing our gaps. Theres not a definitive guy I would say at the moment here "do what you want on the edge", kinda have to earn that freedom. Were there times could we just pin our earsback i think so, but i wouldnt say there was pivotal moment, maybe if we have a proven product on our front 4 we would hvae felt more comfortable

If the Bucs had Judon and Uche they could pull off exotic fire zone drop schemes as both players have experience dropping into zone, rushing the passer in a three point stance or as a stand up blitzer lined up over the A gap.
So what the Bucs were doing last year was too much for the young edge rushers and it was indeed selling out to much to stop the run or the passing game in the flat when the middle of the defense was the issue.
