My honest take is that the Bucs are in year 2 of cap strap evaluation of the roster.  The Bucs are just drafting and developing players and have not been serious about trading or signing to upgrade the team (eg pass rusher).

So if Bowles can guide this team to a better finish this year than last with a tougher schedule and the injuries his stock goes up. But if the Bucs falter then obviously his stock goes down and the loss of Coen would be worse.

Fools gold or not getting into the playoffs with all these injuries would be a miracle.

being in the south certainly helps.

didnt expect to go so far last year either.

we have a solid young core.

next year could be special too.

especially if we get Godwin back.

Again it's literally fool's gold. We knew this was going to happen. It's now happening.

If he can make a playoff run I'll change my mind.

I do not think it is fool's gold if the team ends up responding like last year and rallying on the momentum from young players stepping up.  Just have to see how it plays out.

My honest take is that Bowles needs to reach 10 wins to be taken seriously as a HC that shows some growth.  Another 8 or 9 win campaign isn't going to generate more enthusiasm as a HC moving forward.

If one gets past the “Bowles stays = Coen leaves” fear you probably credit Bowles for delivering some of the things requested here (eg adapt and overcome, average defense) and you probably recognize that the defense - weak and depleted as it might be - actually held us in a couple games while the offense struggled.

that ^ is actual reality but reality is not wanted. Josh Q is a Red Board hero … no more.  He’s ignored. Hes fooled by the fools gold

just like when he said AND SHOWED that White has limitations as a runner.

a little piece of mind

"When Bucs fans hear the terms “next year” and “Liam Coen” in the same sentence, they naturally cringe. Fans are fearful that Coen, who has been way more impressive and effective than fomer offensive coordinator Dave Canales was last year, will also be hired away as a head coach come January.

I’ve already gone on record saying I seriously doubt Coen leaves Tampa Bay. One way or another, I believe this franchise will find a way to keep its talented offensive play-caller, and I’ll leave it at that for now."

I agree. I’ve never believed it to be a zero-sum/one-or-the-other issue.

There are ways to move forward with both Bowles and Coen.

I do think it’s a way to find out if last season was a fluke or if Bowles has some chemistry. A healthy transitional path only benefits the organization in the long run.

Hope we finish strong.

well, it all depends on Coen's career aspirations

what if we wants to strike while the iron is hot and get an NFL head coaching gig, one of only 32 jobs in the world

i mean he will likely never as high on a list as he is now.  What if Baker and Bucs regress next year, Evans another year older, etc.  Why would he take that risk?

can we pay him like a head coach?  yeah but that seems unlikely from a business perspective, no? paying 2 guys when one offense is exceling and the best you can describe the defense is as "replaceable"

So whether he stays or goes will come down to two things

1 - what is the interest level for him?  I mean, he's much better than Canales and he got a head coaching gig last offseason.  I imagine there will be a few teams that are interested, primarily teams with younger-ish QBs, a team like Jacksonville, maybe Chicago.

2 - Assuming the Bucs go on a run here and make playoffs, Bowles would be 3 for 3 in playoff years and back to back without Brady.  By no stretch would any team fire him given the expectations are that we are an average to above average team, not expected to win Superbowls post Brady.  How would they nudge him aside?  Doesnt appear likely.

He may not have to. He can stay with the Bucs as the heir apparent. Bowles plays out his last year (effectively) in 2025 and retires.

I think that its more likely they fall short of the playoffs (hate to say that) but that could still mean both Bowles and Coen stay.

The more interesting question to me is what do the Bucs do about cap and dead money next year? Where do they stand on that? is the "pay off the CC" period over?

I think the answer to that question could have as much impact on the coaching situation as any.  Does anyone have the numbers?

but Bowles is only 61 years old.  Guy loves football like the rest of them, wouldn't see why he would retire?  Shit, if he was a teacher, police officer, or accountant, i could see 61 but unless i am missing something, i'd say the odds are more that he is a defensive coordinator somewhere after his Bucs head coaching stint.

what?  why am i so positive?

from strictly point spreads, we should go 3-1 favored in 3 of the games.

The Falcons should go 3-1

if that prevails, we are 10-7, they are 9-8

Ok - let's say we go 2-2, a bit problematic as we would be 9-8; but could the sputtering Falcons lose to Raiders in Las Vegas this week?  Carolina could also be a fight.

If we win this week, i am sure your tune would change

man, imagine if we win, being 8-6 and Falcons fall to 6-8!  what a week that would be.  Might only need to win 1 more game after this week to make playoffs. (assuming another ATL loss to Washington)

Nah.

If he leads this team the NFC championship game that's a guarantee he keeps his job then we gotta pray we keep Coen.

We beat Philly and Detroit already so we've proven we can hang despite all of Bowles faults.

And if we did make that run you'd have to question Licht on not making any moves to sure up the defense.

All hypothetical
