If he leads this team the NFC championship game that's a guarantee he keeps his job then we gotta pray we keep Coen.

If we were to get to the NFCCG, it’ll be because of the offense.

Why would he take that risk?

He may not have to. He can stay with the Bucs as the heir apparent. Bowles plays out his last year (effectively) in 2025 and retires.

but Bowles is only 61 years old.  Guy loves football like the rest of them, wouldn't see why he would retire?  Shit, if he was a teacher, police officer, or accountant, i could see 61 but unless i am missing something, i'd say the odds are more that he is a defensive coordinator somewhere after his Bucs head coaching stint.

Might have to take that bet with you!!

If he walked off next year he'd still have an other year's pay and probably some job inside OBP.

who knows.  Just a hunch. SR's comment in the Fab 5 might back up the theory

If the team does NOT make the playoffs he could still keep his job lol. Pretty sure OBP does not see Bowles the same way as the Red Board. The current talk of the Bucs is about success IN THE FACE OF MANY INJURIES. And Bowles has been a willing participant to the plan. So yeah, if they make the NFC championship of course hes staying.

I am pretty sure they keep Coen either way

Bucs go on a run here and make playoffs, Bowles would be 3 for 3 in playoff years and back to back without Brady.

I think that its more likely they fall short of the playoffs (hate to say that) but that could still mean both Bowles and Coen stay. I think of Bowles fails to make the playoffs he'll likely be shown the door...Even if Tampa makes the playoffs, If they're eliminated first round I think he's still shown the door as the Glazers want to see improvement from year to year.

The more interesting question to me is what do the Bucs do about cap and dead money next year? Where do they stand on that? is the "pay off the CC" period over?

Not quite....There will be a sizeable drop in dead cap (provided Godwin is re-signed and his $18,852,000 dead cap are pushed to future years)

, but Tampa basically goes from $61,249,206 in dead cap for this year to a slightly more manageable $29,476,419 next year provided Godwin re-signs as I mentioned.   Tampa currently has about 24.5 Mil in cap room next year as it stands and could potentially gain another 13 if Dean is let go like Davis as a post June first cut (more room can also be had by restructures)

I think the answer to that question could have as much impact on the coaching situation as any.  Does anyone have the numbers?

i mean, it all depends...Bucs lose out and finish 7-10, i think Bowles is gone

but if Bucs finish 9-8 and miss playoffs, i think he keeps his job

Bucs make playoffs, the NAACP will be all over Bucs if they fire Bowles.

For the sensitive folk on here, please dont say "dont get political" but the record will show the Bucs made the playoffs 3 years under Bowles in which 2 of the years they were supposed to be rebuilding with dead cap hits.  Your expectations may be entirely different than reality. Hell, wouldn't be surprised if the NFL itself wouldn't launch an Investigation themselves given issues with Brian Flores a few years ago.

This is not Tony Dungy where the Bucs had Super Bowl expectations nor is it Lovie Smith where the Bucs were ass cheeks.

again, 9-8 or better, no way Bowles isnt the head coach next year unless he actually does step aside for personal reasons.

Already, Bowles is in our top 5 head coaches of all time....just to give you a sense of how shit our franchise is and the expectations of this team. (McKay, Dungy, Gruden, Arians, Bowles?)

Thank you for answering that

No HC would want to take over a saddled team, right? A that was going to undercut its own competitiveness by staying out of the FA market?

if the Bucs are in the same mode in 2025 then barring a complete collapse its should not be hard to imagine the team having an agreement in principle with Coen to stand pat for now and take over after Bowles contract, when the dead cap issue has been more resolved

Anytime Blayton :)

It's hard to say as far as a coach taking over a saddled team..If Bowles defense we've seen the majority of the year shows back up (or disappears as it were) then there might not be much choice, especially with Coen the likely favorite to take over.  Next offseason's most notable FA include Godwin, Nelson, Merriweather, Trask, Hainsey, David, Bredeson, M. Edwards, T. Thomas, Gholston and then mainly fringe players, depth pieces, and players that just arent likely to return ( Britt, JJ Russell, JTS etc)

As for 2026 the only real dead-cap as it stands will be a void year by Evans and Godwin (if not neither re-signed this year or next) for a combined 24 million.  That years cap as it stands now ( obviously future FA and drafted players will impact that ) is 106 million with 26 players under contract with Evans, Whitehead, White, Otten, Goedeke, and Zion being the biggest FA's
