As far as a pattern... Of course I see a pattern but this point really contradicts your theme.
And that point= we only won when the offense carried us...
Yes, down the stretch vs atrocious offenses the defenses helped out more... But that was clearly a function of bad offenses with backup QBs.
Mayfield on the playoff loss to the Commanders. He was asked if he thought it was over when the Commanders got the ball back at the end. He answered that the momentum was definitely drifting away and then went on to say this:
But Mayfield wanted to make it perfectly clear: The Bucs offense — his offense — lost the game, not the defense.
“We just offensively didn’t play good enough,” Mayfield said. “And it was one of those days. Like we were averaging, I think, 30 points a game, and we didn’t even come close to that.
“I just made too many mistakes.”

well yeah, id be disappointed if Baker didnt take ownership there. The offense let us down when they were putting up 30 a game and the Baker fumble and Barton snap did us in....
that said, offense carried team all year and we wouldnt have been in playoffs otherwise
both statements can be true
both statements can be true
Absolutely.
It's a team sport. The offense is great most of the season (5th in scoring) and the defense mediocre ( 16th in scoring?), but even worse than the scoring stat at some points due mostly to all the backend issues and limited pass rush.
In the playoff game you could make an easy argument that a better BUT YOUNGER offense just choked a bit. As good as he was in the closing quarter of the season, McMillan was involved in several bad plays, including an early drop for a first down that got us behind, and of course the jet sweep. Barton, of course, down near the goal line in crunch time. I think Wirfs is playing on a bad knee too.
Its also a pretty easy argument (despite some of the resistance here lol) that the defense played better than itself, better than most would expect, in part due toa. couple BIG plays. If the offense only plays to its averages (including most importantly scoring early), we win the game. Baker's point.
Bowles
“I think we finally have depth at almost every positon right now,” Bowles said after today’s Day 1 of training camp. “So as the camp goes on, those things will sort themselves out, but everybody’s on edge right now and everybody’s putting their best foot forward. And that’s what you like to see going into training camp.”
"almost"? Well, the Bucs injuries aren't insurmountable, since the Wirfs and Godwin injuries aren't season ending. They should be back. But it's still a bit unusual to have two of your key players injuried going in to training camp. That's not a good start. And Bowles has a lot of confidence in some guys who he hasn't seen in pads yet. Also we have an inexperienced OC. There's a lot of blind faith going on here. I'm hoping for the best, but lets admit that it's every coaches job to come into training camp with a positive approach. No coach is going to say "I'm really worried that we are going to suck balls this year!"Bowles

Correct, it's coach-speak. Not everyone understands coach-speak, especially the leg-humpers.

The Bucs do actually have more depth this year. Many injuries (or key injuries) can still derail that, but CBs or even WRs are easy example of more depth.

how about the Cowardly Lions? "Your" the king of that jungle right? You'll never own this lie
We’ll see who starts and gets more carries on Sunday. And the week after that. And the week after that. And the week after that. And the week after that.
On page 4 of a 40 page troll lmao
You'll also NEVER take the bet, right?

that would require a little intellectual honesty on your part.
ROFLMAO
Just talk but good to read this from AWJ
“I’m coming in knowing this is going to be my best year,” Winfield told me after his head-turning session in searing heat. “I’m coming in happy, healthy and ready to fly around and make plays. I’m just excited to be on the field. To me, it felt like I missed the whole season last year.”
“Tone-setter, that’s my job,” Winfield said. “That’s why I get paid the money I do. I’m supposed to set the tone and make those plays for our team. That’s what I’m here for.”
“We have to get better with interceptions and takeaways in general,” said Winfield. “And tackling issues were a huge problem for us last year. We missed a lot of tackles — myself included. We were getting killed in the flats. They were checking down and we were missing tackles, turning 2-yard passes into 15-yard gains. Good tackling is a fundamental part of being a good player.”

Exhibit A: Anthony Walker. Bucs sign him for one year and 1.4 mil FA signing. He's the reason all of a sudden we have depth at ILB.
Exhibit B: Jake Majors. Rookie UDFA. He's our backup center depth.
Exhibit C: Deion Jones. One year 1.2 mil FA signing He's another important depth piece.
Exhibit D: Ben Chukwuma rookie UDFA or whoever is backing up at RT. Merle Haggard or Johnny Minimum Paycheck?
Bowles has a lot of faith in guys who haven't done anything for this team. He seems to like them. In general I can't remember any offseason where everyone from the top brass on down to the casual Bucs fans have been so openly positive about the upcoming season. I'm just trying to be objective and check myself and say are things really this great or are people buying into the hype a little too much? It's a little too early for me to say at this point, but lets just say I'm dipping my toes into the pool but not jumping head first.
Except for when Brady was signed of course. No coach is going to say "I'm really worried that we are going to suck balls this year!"
