I’ve heard Bowles say he doesn’t want to coach that much longer. If he is replaced by Coen, I don’t see him landing another HC position and I don’t see him accepting a DC position.
My guess is that Glazers/Licht reason with Bowles to retire instead of being fired. Bowles walks away with his head held high and a big payout.
Coen will be retained because it will set up Bucs for long term success with Coen/Mayfield.
Go Bucs! 🚩🏴☠️🚩
link on him not wanting to coach much longer?
if fired, which obviously wouldnt happen this year, i could see him being a DC somewhere.
Only way Todd gets fired this year is if the Bucs lose their next 3 games
they finish 9-8, 10-7 and miss playoffs; he keeps his job
There is an article on JBF. One of the Joes asked him directly because Mike Lombardi implied Bowles would retire.
he said nope

i mean i think these guys live for this sport. It's their life
Andy Reid is 66, John Harbaugh 61
Bill Belichick is 72. he couldn't quit it
Tom Moore is 86
what was Bruce Arian when he retired? 70?
Pete Carroll had to be walked out the door at the age of 72
i'd be absolutely shocked if Bowles retired as his retirement will be when nobody wants him to coach anymore. He's probably got another decade in him
Could be, I think most high-achievers, he wouldn’t be exited after winning season, especially since he will likely have input on the next draft/FA period which could conceivably put it back on track at a time when the offense has been rebuilt/reset.There is an article on JBF. As for the coaching angle - I seem to remember him saying last season something about not wanting to coach forever? Maybe he’s interested in a BA advisor role? Not sure Bowles wants to coach for another decade? Could be, just not so sure.
Detroit OC Ben Johnson has made some comments about criteria for future HC opportunities…wonder if Liam Coen has any similar thoughts on the subject?
i think it's wishful thinking on our end that Bowles rides off into the sunset but i just think it's unlikely; he's likely having too much fun
We will have to pay Coen to keep him an extra year but honestly if a team like Chicago, Cincy, New York, or Dallas calls your name, not sure why he wouldnt take the head coaching job at one of those locations - either big market or QB talent to work with.
He's probably better off another year with us then taking the Raiders, Jaguars, or Saints openings
The big risk in staying and not striking while the offense is putting up 30 points is the offense regressing next year.

a little less risk though if he is the heir apparent here
Next year is Bowles actual contract year because they are not likely to let him coach as a lame duck
I think Bowles wants what every NFL coach wants, a Superbowl ring. The Bucs have been building toward 2025 and he's been through the transition pains. He's going to want to be part of the team next year because we have a shot if Licht makes some moves and we get some good luck on the injury front.... and if we don't lose Coen. Could he be talked into retiring at the end of the 2025 season? Of course I don't have any insight into the mind of Todd Bowles. I just think that it would be logical for him to want to have at least one more year with the cast of players and coaches he has right now, with maybe a couple changes in the defensive staff.

well yeah, IF....we can keep Coen this offseason it will set up well....but still we are talking about a guy that was head coach of a team, with 3 different coordinators, and won the division each year.
we see the knucklehead that Bowles can be at times, but outside looking in, dude may get an extension

Lol, how are you coping with the bomb threats?
It is crazy how some people post here about Bowles. They post like it is personal and the only thing they know how to do is trash everything associated with him. Nothing is good or even average, its all BAD!
it is just like last year with Mayfield when he was "sending the RB the wrong way" or "missing multiple wide open guys." LOL. Some of the stuff here attributed to Bowles is laughable. Its ALL Bowles!!!
Just look at the heat that comes when you mention the offense struggling in a game lol.
Or even better yet, just look at the board now and try to find any of those over-the-top Bowles-hate posters posting about Quepo's and Ledyard's. Those two guys are routinely cited here as authorities on football and yet you will not find a reference to the last podcast where they BOTH credit Bowles for manufacturing a defense "with a lot of bad players on the field" (due to injury).
You will not see that stuff here -- even though its most favored sons Quepo and Ledyard -- because the podcast dismantles some of the most common (over-the-top) gripes about Bowles
Bowles has plenty of issues and there are many reasonable questions about his coaching, JUST LIKE ALMOST EVERY COACH IN THE NFL. But man, the stuff posted about him here is most often comically over the top.
“I’ve heard”…..
Mah sources….
It was what White Tiger said. Bowles had an interview last year and was asked how long he wanted to coach and he chuckled and said like definitely not forever. It was not a response that coaches usually give. Made me wonder.
“And now Godwin is injured completely unnecessarily. A coaching disaster class by Todd Bowles tonight. Gross negligence.”
- Ledyard via Twitter
“Bowles clearly has no idea what’s even being proposed here, despite the fact it’s coaching 101 stuff.
Then offers a nonsensical explanation that just isn’t true at all. Really seems like it never occurred to him to use those timeouts at end of 4th Q. This is brutal.”
- Ledyard via Twitter
“Feel bad for Bucs fans. It shouldn’t be like this. Even a decent coaching staff has this team as a contender. Can’t retain Bowles or Leftwich. Only hope is Bucs administration realizing that over next couple weeks”
- Ledyard via Twitter
“It’s not tough stuff to figure out. But Bowles is an incompetent game manager…”
- Ledyard via Twitter
“Bowles has had ugly stretches as Bucs DC and HC, but nothing like this. The levels of miscommunication and mistakes are inexcusable. Not sure how it changes under him”
- Ledyard via Twitter
“It’s getting indefensible for Bowles. In this league you HAVE to be able to game plan for opponents. Can’t just run what you run. Good OCs will cook you. He’s lucky this isn’t worse today.”
- Ledyard via Twitter
“Don't ever change Todd Bowles soft coverage late 4th-Q defense.”
- Queipo via Twitter
“Hey look y'all. Todd Bowles *used* a timeout *kinda*”
- Queipo via Twitter
“Todd Bowles’ defensive gameplan this week is perplexing to say the least.”
- Queipo via Twitter
“Keep blitzing and blowing lanes.
Never change Todd Bowles.”
- Queipo via Twitter

It’s a sports bulletin board so yeah that happens, but I don’t see anybody doing that on this thread.
For me, Bowles is a good DC and a calming, steady influence on the team. My problem with Bowles is his in-game coaching. I hate when he takes the ball out of Baker’s hands to play it “safe” at end of games. It would be great to have a coach who has confidence in his offense and plays to win. In my ideal world, both Bowles and Coen stay. But reality tells me otherwise. And if I have to choose, I’m picking Coen. Modern football teams need an OC to be head coach because otherwise, if the offense is successful, the QB and offense are having to learn a new system every year. Just the way it is now.
