When Smith was fired last year, his defense was giving up 34.6 points per game. Over the last three weeks, Bowles defense has allowed 36.4 points per game and 29.4 for the year. Only the injured Cam Newton has failed to ring up 30+ points on the Bucs.
I get it, it takes time to fix stuff. But all we heard was, it’s all Mike Smith. Get a good coordinator in here and we will have at least a middle of the road defense. We supposedly went out and got not just a good coordinator, but a great coordinator who’s special talent was generating a pass rush with OK players via exotic blitzes. Um, I haven’t see a pass rush or exotic blitzes.
Honeymoon is over.
