Bold prediction time..
5 QBs will go in the top 6 picks.
Allow me to rationalize with you.
*While the QB/team pairings may differ from my projection, I believe all 5 1st round QBs go in the top 6, regardless of how the dominoes fall.
1 CLE- QB Sam Darnold
Cleveland has needed a quarterback since 1852. They have tried to be cute in the past by waiting and taking guys like Manziel, Weeden, and Kaiser. They absolutely can not screw around and take Barkley. Whether the top three picks end up being QB or not, it's at least a possibility, and for that reason alone they can't wait until #4. Besides, there's a great chance Barkley will still be available at #4, provided the Giants pass on him, which I believe they will.
2- NYG QB Josh Rosen
Many will assume Saquan Barkley goes to the Giants here. Not so fast. Sure the GM has spoken openly about his confidence in Eli, but facts are facts. Eli is far removed from his prime. He has looked very poor for at least 2 seasons now. At best, you have an absolutely average QB for another season or two. If you're the Giants you don't want to be picking top 2 in the draft again anytime soon. You have to lock up your future QB while you have the chance. Should they select Barkley, anything short of a championship in 2018 would be a disappointment. A case may have been made if they won the bidding war for Norwell, but considering their porous offensive line, Barkley certainly wouldn't be enough to get them to the Super Bowl next year. Therefore, the smart move is QB.
3- BUF(IND) QB Josh Allen
With Buffalo climbing to #12, the speculation has been confirmed. Buffalo is moving up for a QB. With Darnold and Rosen off the board, I believe Buffalo will offer up a deal to Indy to get their guy, Josh Allen. I don't see HC Sean McDermott being a Mayfield kind of guy. Allen seems right up his alley.
4- CLE RB Saquan Barkley
Cleveland wisely took their top rated QB and still wind up getting Barkley. I laugh when I hear "Cleveland signed Carlos Hyde so they won't draft Barkley." Bullcrap. Whether it's Tyrod Taylor or their rookie QB, the Browns will need to lean on defense and a strong running game. They have a solid offensive line. Hyde and Barkley would form an incredibly formidable two-headed monster. I think they compliment each other perfectly.
5- MIA QB Baker Mayfield
There are rumors out there that the Dolphins are infatuated with Mayfield. Word is, they view him as a franchise QB that will rally his team to wins at the NFL level. They can't rely on Tannehill. Not only is he coming off of a knee injury, he really wasn't that good to begin with, even with the QB whisperer Adam Gase as Head Coach. Denver really wanted a QB but likely won't be warm to the idea of Mayfield or Jackson as their signal caller. Look for them to try and snag Mason Rudolph in the 2nd.
6- NYJ QB Lamar Jackson
While the Jets likely were poised to draft Mayfield, they are now left with Lamar Jackson as their lone option. With the moves being made in New York, it's apparent that the Jets are pushing to compete in 2018. They did get Teddy Bridgewater, but considering the Vikings were willing to let him go, I'm not sure if he'll ever fully recover from the nasty knee injury 2 years ago. McCown played well last year, but he's not going to win any more than 6 games as a starter. The Jets are starving for a spark on offense, and seeing the transformation of Houston's offense with rookie QB Deshaun Watson, the Jets will hope to duplicate that explosiveness with the former Heisman winner.
7- TB DE Bradley Chubb
Stick Carriers around the world are doing cartwheels.
