He was a national scout for the Bucs for two years. Maybe, hire him back?
Brian was Director of Player Personnel for the Texans for the past 6 years, and helped build their roster. They were Super Bowl contenders before this year's implosion. One option could be to promote Dennis Hickey to GM and hire Brian Gardner to be Director of Player Personnel.
....or not.
is it true that Lovie will be selecting his players? The new GM will just be a numbers guy, right?
....or not.
LOL I'm not a Hickey fan either, but wouldn't put it past the Glazers.
It'll get settled in the upcoming week...assuming the guy that's hired will only be there in a complimentary role to Lovie.

No. This hire better be a personnel hire. Preferably college scouting imo. Lovie has final say, but he's going to need someone to present him with good choices. There's no way Lovie is going to have the time to watch all the film on these guys to know who we should take in the 5th round. I'm sure Lovie will handle free agency, but practice squad evaluation is also something he will need big help with. College scouting guy has a head start there as well. I would be looking at about a dozen franchises and trying to grab one of their directors of college scouting. Or at least that's the first place I'd look given the limitation of final say. We can get a fucking "numbers guy" off the street. Wasn't our last gm a "numbers guy"? He constantly gave out over market value contracts.
God I hate this idea that Lovie will be in total control of the actual roster and the only thing the GM is for will be to crunch numbers, like Lovie has some great eye for talent. This is a guy that when hired as Bears HC "needed" Adam freakin Archuleta from the Rams.
