Brooks hurt by David's Pro Bowl snub January, 21, 2014 By Pat Yasinskas | ESPN.com TAMPA, Fla. -- I got to spend time Tuesday with Derrick Brooks. We'll have much more on that next week when I write a column previewing the Pro Football Hall of Fame selections with Brooks as a finalist. But at the end of the interview, I asked Brooks a couple of questions on other topics. One of those was Tampa Bay linebacker Lavonte David, who frequently gets compared to Brooks. Although he usually is quite calm, Brooks got animated as he talked about the fact that David was not selected to the Pro Bowl. "I was very hurt -- I wasn't just disappointed, I was very hurt -- to see this young man left off the Pro Bowl football team," Brooks said. "Now he turns around and he makes All-Pro. I get it. But there's something about being recognized by your peers that means a lot. That had to sting. I felt terrible for him. He's undoubtedly not just one of the top linebackers, but one of the top football players in the National Football League." If David still is feeling that sting, maybe he can take some consolation in what Brooks had to say about the comparisons of the two that many fans have made. "To compare him to me is unfair at this point in his career because he doesn't have longevity on his side," Brooks said. "Does he have a lot of signs? Of course. He's done more his first couple years than I did in my first two years. This defense has had to depend on him a lot more than what the defense had to depend on me my first couple of years. I got better Year 3 through whatever. Now we've got to wait and see if that happens for him."Pro Bowl 2014: Brian Orakpo also beats out Lavonte David By Sander Philipse?@Sanderrp Jan 21 2014, 3:42pm
Gregory ShamusLavonte David continues to get snubbed in increasingly idiotic ways. Okay, now it's just getting ludicrous. Outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks opted out of the Pro Bowl. First thought: hey, cool, that probably means Lavonte David is going. Except, nope.We discussed yesterday how Lavonte David arguably had the best year any linebacker has had since at least 1996. Meanwhile, Brian Orakpo had 10 sacks, one interception and four passes defensed. A good year, sure. Nowhere close to David's year. Oh, and just so I can repeat this again, this is not due to fan voting. If it were up to the fans, Lavonte David would be in the Pro Bowl. They had him as the fifth best outside linebacker in the NFL. Instead, it's the coaches and players who did David in. What did he ever do to them? The somewhat good news: Orakpo will hit the market this offseason and has the right size to play defensive end. So, the Bucs may have a Pro Bowl outside linebacker after all. http://www.bucsnation.com/2014/1/21/5331916/pro-bowl-2014-brian-orakpo-also-beats-out-lavonte-david
He's been on a very bad team. It's the only excuse I can come up with.
Sign Orakpo convert him to DE (obviously) and that solves the problem. They need to break it up into 3-4 and 4-3 LB'S.
Could you imagine how LD plays next year if he uses this snub as offseason motivation? Jeez

I know. If he can reproduce this year's numbers, he's probably the best 4-3 LB in the league.
On the bright side, he doesn't have to risk injury in Hawaii. Pro bowl's a joke anyway.
Not a single 4-3 outside linebacker was named, and only two 3-4 DE were named to the pro bowl so essentially the DE and outside LB's are all the same players. High sack totals is what is being looked at therefore a 4-3 linebacker doesn't get voted in. Until they get ride of fan voting these things will happen. If you don't know the position you vote for the person with the stats that look impressive,an average fan would probably vote for a guy with 50 tackles and 10 sacks over a guy with 100 tackles and 3 sacks without even understanding they are in two different styles of defense.

Not really, David was 5th on the pro bowl ballot from the fans.. He was also making the pro bowl on the ballot from the media (made the all pro), so it's the other players and coaches who were the problem and voted for the big names and stats.

And Orapko was on a good team?
The same thing happened last year with Richard Sherman and received a lot of media coverage. I think that based on all the coverage David is getting now this will help propell him to future pro bowls in the same way that it did this year for Sherman. As long as he continues to play well of course.

You want logic from the guy?

Why worry? ...two_hand touch isn't so bad.

Years ago, a Patriot RB tore his knee up there, playing beach volleyball.
It made me mad and cracked me up at the same time as I watched a little of the Pro Bowl draft and guys like Weakly and Burfict were getting picked and they were getting talked about like the best LBs in the game. Please lmao. David is THE best and most complete linebacker in the game today.
