Very happy with Graham Barton as the selection. JPJ would have been an option had Barton not been there but there are some injury concerns that we revealed earlier this week, specifically him being prone to concussions. Barton was not supposed to be there but the run on QBs and then WRs pushed him down and even then I thought the Steelers would take him, but they also got a steal in Troy Fautanu.
@alldaway Falcons are not trying to have another "Matt Ryan at the end of his career" situation with Cousins. I felt they could have attempted to trade back but I'll give it to them for having guts and reaching a ton to take their heir apparent.
JPJ wasn’t on Licht’s board.
Medicals weren’t good.
Mayfield to Licht: LFG!
Cousins to Atlanta: WTF!

True and nothing wrong with having a QB to sit and learn a bit. But the money they handed out to Cousins is kind of making it hard for the Falcons to bail from this contract at the earliest being 2026? And the Falcons lose out on the cheap rookie contract for Penix for at least 2 year or even more if Cousins plays out his contract.
Like I have said when Trask was drafted that nothing wrong with a QB to sit and learn a bit but the timing has to be right too. Brady had two years left on his contract and no indication he was going to retire. Bucs were trying to push for a SB repeat.
Well I hope it works out. I'm glad we went line... glad we went center. JPJ is going to be much better. Like the Packers taking Myers over Creed...

Small point of contention: when Trask was drafted in 2021, Brady only had one year remaining of the two-year contract he signed in 2020. Brady re-signed a one-year extension in April of 2022. Also, Brady was 43 at the time Trask was drafted and he would turn 44 during that 2021 season. Cousins is definitely in his twilight - but he's nowhere near as old as Brady was when Trask was drafted.
Pretty surprising move by Atlanta to use a top-10 pick on a QB.
Yeah just saw the article. Newton would've been a Buccaneer if Barton did not fall. Its interesting to me though Newton also has medical concerns - I guess just not as bad as JPJ.JPJ wasn’t on Licht’s board.
Medicals weren’t good.
Thank you Cowboys
Yes!Really, really good pick. This is the first 1st-round pick I've liked in a while. I had Barton and Darius Robinson as the BPA at the pick, and both player happen to be in positions of need. They ended up going back-to-back.
Very happy Barton dropped further than expected, mostly because of QB's being overdrafted.
I was hoping the QB’s scenario would play out that way, too!
Felt the same way when it was Barton at 26 - I also liked the Darius Robinson pick - didn’t think he’d go till 2nd round though.

they say centers in the first round have a high "HIT" rate like 92% or something like that
yes Barton along with the Wirfs picks seem like slam dunks at the time, let's see if Barton can be our Jason Kelce

i mean the pick makes no sense, it's not like the falcons dont have holes. that's a pick you make if you are ready to move on in a year or 2; Cousins signed a 4 year deal at 45M per year. Is it really a 2 year deal? calls into the question the Cousins signing all together and the fact that he was a reach in the top 10

plus we are not factoring in that Licht was arrogant and drunk during that draft, lingering form the boat parade. The Bucs starting line-up was stacked with no holes so instead of going for depth at other positions, he went with a kick returner and a development back-up QB.
It sure looks like Bowles defensive scheme & current talent matches up with how to beat both these ATL QB’s.
Geatting some defensive additions today should set us up for a lot of success.
Building something special here!
Would've preferred Newton, but not upset at all about Barton.
I still think we'll see another IOL this evening.
I really like the pick did not expect him to be there but I guess Nix penix Robinson Moses allowed him to dropto us
