Would've preferred Newton, but not upset at all about Barton.

I still think we'll see another IOL this evening.

Newton’s Lisfranc injury may have caused some slow/rolling. Bengals had him in on a last minute 30 visit.

liked him a lot too, crazy he lasted so long - heard comparisons to a young John Randle - wow.

Barton makes too much sense.  I really can’t believe he was still available when we picked.   Our Oline is now a strength.  Let’s get a running back to pair with White.

I have major concerns from the FSU film

I'll do positives first. He excels 1 vs 1 in the run game if he has an angle. He's very quick and get off a double and to the second level fairly well.

Negatives.

He goes backwards 1 on 1 in pass pro. And this is against college edge rushers. Now it's going to be NFL iDL. When he gets on people they are quick to swipe off of him because he has short arms, has slow hands and doesn't play strong. He actually looks weak when he's engaged. Against FSU he was responsiible for a -3 run, holding on a 3rd and 11 conversion, another holding that should have been called and a pressure and big QB hit on a critical 4th and 3.

The first play on ESPN highlight film was him drive-blocking and pancaking Jared Verse 8 yards past the LOS.

Listen, this is not going well for you. Stop. Your analysis is suspect and based on a pretty small sample size. We didn’t draft him as a LT, we drafted a stellar prospect - the ONLY iOL taken in the first round of this draft. We’re all ecstatically happy, but you don’t like it because of the way he played against FSU, as a LOT?

We don’t know that he will be a great Center/Guard but we trust that the scouts who are currently being paid by numerous teams - including the Bucs - did on Barton. And a majority of Bucs fans are thrilled.

This was a MAJOR win for the Bucs and the rest of us fans as well. in fact, you can add the Buc players: Licht confirmed that he heard from Baker Mayfield who sent him a text that said “thank you.” That’s all you need to know as to whether the players think it was a good pick.

All of us are excellent talent evaluators, in our own minds, especially at draft day. It doesn’t mean we are, some of us just think it out loud. You have the right to trash/question the selection. However, we’re all capable of disagreeing with you.

We find your analysis, lacking and based on an extremely small sample size, and therefore, kinda silly.

Try not to make it worse.

The last time Licht drafted a center he's the worst rated center in the league after 3 years, no? Cody Mauch looks like an UDFA. I'll stop shitting on your Graham Barton Ring of Hanor ceremony. Lets see in 3 years.

Just relax.  Everyone knew Center was, likely, our biggest weakness.

I’m sure Verse won a snap or two. Hell, he should. He’s going up against a college LT that is moving to C at the next level. If we’re being honest, Verse should have won damn near every snap of that matchup.

But he didn’t.

Like I have said when Trask was drafted that nothing wrong with a QB to sit and learn a bit but the timing has to be right too.  Brady had two years left on his contract and no indication he was going to retire.  Bucs were trying to push for a SB repeat.

Small point of contention: when Trask was drafted in 2021, Brady only had one year remaining of the two-year contract he signed in 2020. Brady re-signed a one-year extension in April of 2022. Also, Brady was 43 at the time Trask was drafted and he would turn 44 during that 2021 season.  Cousins is definitely in his twilight - but he's nowhere near as old as Brady was when Trask was drafted.

Pretty surprising move by Atlanta to use a top-10 pick on a QB.

The non comparable part of this equation is that Trask was a late 2nd rounder whereas Penix was the 8th pick in the draft thus rendering the pick virtually useless for the Falcons. I can't imagine the thought process when they gave Cousins his $100mil guarantee that they'd pick a QB that high. Verse couldn't help a team that can't get to the QB? It was a stupid move by the Falcons.

Yeah...your Quenton Nelson "analysis" which you doubled down on for years makes you the go to guy for IOL opinion. LOL!

I said he would be an above average guard. He was drafted and paid like a QB. After 6 years he's... an above average guard.

He also thought Wirfs would be a better guard in the NFL than tackle and wouldn’t be able to handle either LT or RT. Turns out he can do both at a high level. Lol. Legend in his own mind.
