The Buccaneers announced five roster moves on Monday, including the waiving and release of four players, including offensive tackle Gabe Carimi and defensive tackle Derek Landri, that will account for $3.06 million in base salary savings. https://www.pewterreport.com/index.php?option=com_k2&Itemid=20&view=item&layout=item&id=9631
base salary savings? I hate the NFL salary cap. I have those 4 cuts accounting for 3.75 mil in cap savings according to overthecap.com.
Probably Carimi, having come from Chicago, figured the writing was on the wall with Lovie here, but Landri was a bit of a surprise. He fought injuries all last season, so I really didn't fault his lack of production. He did do well in Philly before we signed him... Kafka can play a bit; not a bad signing...
Landri was due to make 1.5 mil against the cap in 2014. He was a clean cut (no dead money). Seems like we can get Landri type production at a much more affordable price. Or significantly upgrade on Landri's production using his money and a bit more.

Right now from what I understand this saves 2.5m . During this time of year the salary cap is calculated by the top 51 salaries on the roster. Even if cutting Carimi saves 2m (just throwing out numbers) his salary is replaced by a minimum salary guy $700K? So in this example it saves $1.3M not $2M. These aren't correct numbers just showing how it works with Top 51 salaries.

The more people try to help me understand it, the more I hate it. :'(
No one on that list we should be shedding tears over. IMO
Freeing up $3 mil is always a good deal. You can sign a lot of young guys for a fraction of that cost.

Yes but do you get 'good' players for a fraction of the cost?

For the players that were cut that is not an issue.
