I hate to ruin it for you. The draft is on April 25th. That means over six months. Remember Vita Vea? Seems like ancient history. Yet we are closer to the last draft than to the next one. So sorry to burst your bubble.
Plus, why get excited about drafting these young pups into the meat grinder of a losing organization? It doesn't matter if you are a talented player. These are young impressionable kids. They don't learn to be NFL winners without someone teaching them, and no one here can teach them. If you come to the Bucs your only hope is that you suck bad enough to get cut and picked up by the Patriots, where you will thrive and become a hall of famer. Sorry Bucs draftniks I hope you aren't reading this while cleaning your shotgun.
But my point of this is to try (I'm sure in vain) to stop all the draft speculation. Draft position- fine. Draft prospects - not fine. I plan to do my part.
Please call me or anyone else out if I mention anything about prospects...until AFTER we have new leadership in place. Leadership with a history of winning in the NFL.
Jason Licht. If you keep Jason Licht, he can't hire the head coach, or even be involved. Not even veto power. No serious candidate would consider being "Licht's guy" because Licht could be fired after one year. That means that a new GM comes in who didn't hire the coach. That automatically puts that coach on the hotseat and round and round we go.
The Glazers hire the coach, or better yet hire a football expert to advise them to hire the head coach.
Keeping Licht on his one year deal may be the best option. Because having the head coach bring in his own GM is not necessarily the best idea either. Then that guy has to be at the beck and call of the whims of the head coach. I don't want a coach to bring in his own GM.
Like Licht or not, he hasn't been described as an ego guy. He has experience and would do his job to work with the coach. He's not working for the coach, and the coach isn't working for him.
So sorry to rain on your draft parade that is already starting. But none of this draft stuff amounts to a hill of beans if we don't get off this losing treadmill. Once the Bucs hire some competent leadership then let the chat about draft prospects begin. Thats they way I feel about it. I don't control anyone else, but I'll do my part.
