Drafting a WR this year is a year early IMHO. There are so many other glaring needs that should be higher priorities in this draft.
Keep developing McMillan, and maybe the Bucs can get something from Palmer as the veterans leave.

If the right prospect falls to us, I'm okay with taking one in R2-R4.
Godwin is the physicality i love in a wideout, def someone you wanna go to war with and can handle the physicality of playoff football

I'll second that. He has been my favorite Buc since he began his career here. I have his #14 jersey in the home red. I was wearing it at the stadium during the Ravens game when he had that brutal injury.
You may be right and that's too much IMO. If people are celebrating the signing of Godwin, they should realize they are also celebrating the fact that Licht isn't going to get any top line FAs to fix the defense.I think Godwin and his agent are motivated to work out a deal with the Bucs and so is the Bucs organization.
Both sides are very motivated to get a deal done.
I think they land somewhere in the neighborhood of 3yr/$66M (with $45M guaranteed).

Godwin extends drives on third down. Critical to help a defense stay off the field

That would be right at or below his market value.
And, we could still maneuver cap space to sign a big FA edge player that Bowles will drop into coverage for 25% of their snaps.
I agree that's his market value because other teams have more of a need at WR. On the one hand the Bucs are trending toward running more with their solid O-line, which most successful teams do (except for the Chiefs). Philadelphia runs about 60% of the time. You may be right and that's too much IMO.

On the other hand, Grizzard has said he wants to shorten drives and push the ball downfield more. I'm a little dubious of that emphasis, because it could result in shorter drives known as "3 and out"s. But that's what he says he wants to do and in that case signing Godwin becomes more important.
push the ball downfield more.
i am not sure that emphasis means Godwin becomes more important.
He is important no matter the emphasis but his role is more the underneath guy keeping those drives going. Canales put him outside initially and it didnt go that well for Godwin or the offense overall.

So, in other words, you couldn't give a single reason as to why we shouldn't re-sign Godwin.
Expected...
I already gave the reason. There's a good chance he can't live up to his past performance due to age and injury. We don't even know his status with his current injury. Wide receivers start to fall off at age 30. Godwin is turning 29 in a few days. He'll be 30 in year 2 of a new deal. 29 year olds Cooper Kupp and Deebo Samuel are the subject of trade talks because their teams are looking to move on from them. If we when we sign Chris Godwin we get Chris Godwin, thats a great deal. But IMO there's a better than 50-50 chance this contract becomes an albatross around the neck of the Bucs. I'll wait to see the details of the contract and how long they are effectively locked in for.I agree that's his market value because other teams have more of a need at WR. We do know some things. He had a dislocation and that’s an injury where you see athletes back performing in as little as 3 months so he should have a full offseason.
i agree that he’s probably more beat up than most 29 yr old NFL WRs, but there is about zero chance of a team not resigning a guy like Godwin, if the opportunity is there.
You seemed to be focused on his age and money but you’re leaving out the rest of the team. he is a leader on the team injured on the field and in a contract year. What the team does with a guy like Godwin in that scenario has a massive ripple through the entire team. They are all watching.
if you know anything about Licht and the Glazers and Bowles they were 1000% wanting him back, if they can get him. Real teams are real players and coaches so most things don’t happen in a zero emotion, clinical way.
A QB is not a WR but Prescott had a dislocated ankle WITH a compound fracture in 2020(?), so much worse injury than Godwin, and has still been productive and mobile.
I have a strong feeling he is already gone
