The football simpleton now cries “outliers” out of pure ignorance. We can look at what Carroll’s teams did a decade ago, or what they’ve done recently.
Seattle’s NFL Ranks:
2020 - 19rd in Rushing attempts, 17th in Passing attempts
2021 - 27th in Rushing attempts, 29th in Passing attempts
2022 - 23rd in Rushing attempts, 15th in Passing attempts
Go look for some more articles, slapnuts. The men are talking.
It’s worth noting that Canales was Seattle’s “Passing Game Coordinator” in ‘20 and ‘21, before and after Carroll fired Schottenheimer. Yet Carroll still decided to go outside of the organization to hire Waldron in 2021.

Buggsy you are not a man, that is for sure. And if you want to die on the hill that Pete Carroll was some kind of passign coach -- no less by quoting 2020-22 LMAO -- then go for it. This will not be the first time that your FRAGILE EGO had you flailing around on the message board
"That's why you see the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams all ranked within the top 10 in passing attempts last year. Passing the ball is not only more efficient than running, but it also gives elite quarterbacks more control over the game's proceedings.
Then you have the Seattle Seahawks, a profoundly weird team in an era relying more and more on its quarterbacks to generate offense. For much of the Pete Carroll era, Seattle has preferred to lean on its running game rather than the other way around.
Take a look at the last nine years of Seahawks rushing, ranked by the amount of rushing attempts in the league.
Seahawks rushing ranks in the NFL
- 2021: 27th (25.8 rushes per game)
- 2020: 17th (25.7 rushes per game)
- 2019: 3rd (30.1 rushes per game)
- 2018: 2nd (33.4 rushes per game)
- 2017: 21st (25.6 rushes per game)
- 2016: 20th (25.2 rushes per game)
- 2015: 3rd (31.3 rushes per game)
- 2014: 2nd (32.8 rushes per game)
- 2013: 2nd (31.8 rushes per game)
Now let's look at passing attempts per season.
Seahawks passing ranks in the NFL
- 2021: 31st (29.1 passes per game)
- 2020: 17th (35.2 passes per game)
- 2019: 23rd (32.3 passes per game)
- 2018: 32nd (26.7 passes per game)
- 2017: 16th (34.7 passes per game)
- 2016: 18th (35.4 passes per game)
- 2015: 28th (30.6 passes per game)
- 2014: 32nd (28.4 passes per game)
- 2013: 31st (26.3 passes per game)
Yeah, Seattle really does not like to pass, ranking at best 16th in overall attempts in the 2017 season.
In 2013, the Seahawks passed nine times fewer per game than the average NFL team.
What happened in 2013 again?
Oh yeah, Seattle won its first-ever Super Bowl.
LIKE I SAID BUGGSY . . YOU ARE TRULY AN IDIOT. CARROLL IS SYNONYMOUS WITH OLD SCHOOL, RUN FIRST OFFENSES TO COMP HIS TOUGH DEFENSES.
THIS IS PETE CARROLL TALKIGN ABOUT RUN FIRST:
"
So why do defensive coaches want to run the ball so much?
“Because it’s the best way to not screw it up,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll told reporters on Thursday."
THE TALK ABOUT HIM BEING RUN FIRST IS CERTAINLY OVERBLOWN BUT THAT IS LITERALLY WHAT HE IS KNOWN FOR
FOR ANYONE WHO CAN READ A BIT (that excludes you Buggsy) there's tons of info out there about RUSSELL WILSON trying to get the Seahawks to open up their very conservative RUN FIRST offense.
Literally dozens of articles. this is from one of them:
"After a humiliating loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the 2021 NFL Wild Card Round, Pete Carroll doubled down on his philosophy of running the football.
“We have to run the ball better, not even better, we have to run it more. We have to dictate what’s going on with the people that we’re playing, and that’s one of the ways to do that," said Carroll on 710 ESPN Seattle radio.
"I know the fans aren’t real jacked on hearing that, but Russ knows it, too. We need to be able to knock those guys into the scheme that we want to throw at."
BUGGSY .... KEEP FLAILING AWAY SUCKA (Waldron was a reaction to the criticism, for goodness sake)
Yet Carroll still decided to go outside of the organization to hire Waldron in 2021.
"
Winning over Russell Wilson - QB's chemistry with Shane Waldron could determine Seattle Seahawks' future"
ENTON, Wash. -- Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson put Shane Waldron on the spot.
The team was interviewing offensive coordinator candidates in mid-January, a search in which coach Pete Carroll involved Wilson heavily at his request.
Through several rounds of Zoom sessions, Wilson could sense the knowledge Waldron soaked up in seven seasons working under New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick and Sean McVay, whose Los Angeles Rams come to Lumen Field on Thursday night (8:20 p.m. ET, Fox/NFL Network).
But Wilson wanted to see how a guy who had never coordinated or called plays at the NFL level would think on his feet. He had Waldron put on his imaginary headset and pick up his imaginary play sheet.
"I had him call several series for me," Wilson said. "'We're down by seven, here we go, first quarter' ... I wanted to hear him call it."
Waldron knew his audience: A head coach who demands offensive balance and prioritizes protecting the ball, a quarterback who has an affinity for quick tempo and the control it gives him. When Waldron got the chance to call a drive, he had Seattle's offense operating in hurry-up mode.
"The whole time," Carroll said. "Yeah, he knew who he was selling. He did a good job."
DIE ON THAT HILL BUGGSY
Yes. Literally.
Literally, huh?
Per Josh Quiepo:
"Last Year Seattle was 5th(!) in 1st down pass rate in neutral situations (<80% wp in either direction) outside of the 2-minute warning!!! 53.72%"
"I think it’s safe to say #gobucs fans will see more play action in 2023 than last season no matter who the starting QB is. Geno Smith was 12th in the NFL last season among passers with at least 382 drop backs in PA% at a 25.3% rate per @PFF"
"SEA ranked 11th in the NFL in epa/pass last year (0.0646) and 21st in epa/rush (-0.0734). Bucs ranked 15th (0.0420) and 31st (-0.205) respectively."
"This person did not watch SEA in 2022. Waldron was doing stuff with 3 TE sets no one else could dream up. Motions out of pistol, pop passes, RPO's mixed in. SEA had a pretty damn creative offense LY."

So, I think it's safe to say that Carroll's offense and play callers have had more creativity than our last offensive coordinator that you so adamantly defend.

Buggys II ^^^^^
Look, I dont even buy into the idea that our first time OC is going to be a Carroll offensive disciple but man its hilarious watching two guys who led the "run on 1st down" complaints now choked down the potential of having a MORE conservative, RUN RUN PASS coordinator
ESPECIALLY .. especially . . by calling up . . . 2022
That is ESPECIALLY funny because you two PROFESS to be all about analytics . . and yet you're portraying CARROLL's SEVENTEEN seasons in the NFL by just the last one. What's next, Donovan Smith's career is defined by his 2020 season?
LMAO
The easiest response - for two people who said "run PA more" especially - is that even if our OC was a Carroll clone Carroll is in reality an early believer in rudimentary analytics and so a BIG believer in PA passing. That is the secondary point of his offensive philopshy, run to set up EXPLOSIVES
"There was a gentleman, years ago, when I was at the Vikings. His name was Michael Eayrs. And we interviewed him, he was from Mankato, he was the offensive coordinator at Mankato State," Carroll said Oct. 3 on 710 AM radio in Seattle.
"And he came to us, somebody had recommended him. And I remember, Jerry Burns said, told Mark Trestman and I, to interview the guy, and talk to him about whatever he had. He had some scientific stuff for us, you know? Research and all that. Analytics that we didn't understand at the time," Carroll continued.
"And anyway, so we fell for this guy. He had so much information, we hired him. And he was the guy that established somehow, statistically, that a 16-yard pass on a drive, and a 12-yard run on a drive, affected the drive in a way that it bettered their chances of scoring."
(Tressman obviously the king of analytics in that group, but Carroll is at least aware especially for an Old school guy)
the Bucs are likely to field a shit team and a weak QB and they have a DEFENSIVE coach who wants to run MORE
if they can get the defense sorted out and run the ball effectively the season may not be a TOTAL wash lol
This person did not watch SEA in 2022.
It’s pretty obvious. Not that it would matter though. The dumb bastard watched the Bucs all year and still defended the OC ad nauseam, while blaming the defense. He’s painfully clueless.
Regarding the ground and pound style offense. Sadly, I just dont think its a viable strategy in todays NFL. Having a strong aerial attack is the most effective and efficient way to move the ball up and down the field. A run game is necessary to keep defenses honest and in short yardage and red zone situation, but between the 20's you have to make plays through the air.

Pete Carroll is 2022
Brain surgeons attack or comfort cuddle because… football ego ouchies?

Well a little quick background on what happened with SEA can shed light on what the Bucs will do.
The reason why SEA dumped RW was because not only was he older and his contract a big weight on the franchise. But when teams started to play more cover 2 the 2020 and 2021 seasons respectively Seahawks had a hard time adjusting because RW refused to adjust. Carroll hinted at several press conferences that you have to run the ball when teams are running cover 2 and force the safety to come down. But also be able to work the short passing game down the seam or crossers which is the middle of the field which is RW big weakness as we just saw with the 2022 Denver Broncos. The Seahawks were not the only team to see more cover 2 in 2020 and 2021 as that happened with the Chiefs and Bucs. But Mahomes and Brady both showed they could adjust and the Chiefs and Bucs of 2021 season still were prolific offenses through the air but they did sprinkle in enough of the run to keep defenses honest. Well fast forward to 2022 and the Bucs offense stalled because they could not be efficient or effective running the ball and the pass offense also suffered as defenses couldn't be kept honest. Meanwhile the 2022 Chiefs were a strong offense which helped them reach the SB and win it all.
It is not that Carroll is a run first coach just because he is a defensive coach. His philosophy is that you have to be able to run the ball if a defense is sitting back in zone and you have to be able to throw the deep ball when there are 8 in the box. That is why P. Carroll still has players like Lockett and Metcalf on the roster. So on this point I can understand what Bowles was trying to point out throughout the year. You have to be able to the run ball effectively regardless if it is 15 carries per game or 30+. Your run game should be around 4.0 YPC or more to really augment a passing offense.
Time will tell if the Bucs are run first or a more balanced offense but I do not see a pass happy offense with the current personnel unless the Bucs nab a veteran QB or they ask Trask to sling the ball around ala Geno. But that requires Trask to be able to read pre snap looks like Geno Smith did and that is not easy for a young player. Also, Geno Smith is an old man now and had the opportunity to sit and learn form E. Manning, Rivers and Wilson and how they conduct themselves. Trask at least has watched Brady for the last two seasons so that is something to hang your hat on but his processing speed pre snap needs to be quick for a passing onslaught to develop again in TB. But to help the new QB or Trask the Bucs run game has to be much, much better.
