Bucs' Humphries outperforming most drafted rookie WRsGreg Auman, Times Staff WriterWednesday, December 23, 2015 2:40pmAdam_Zpsubdrfe8B.jpgAfter getting six catches for 60 yards in Thursday's loss to the Rams, Bucs rookie Adam Humphries has drawn praise for the impact he's been able to make, not only as an undrafted player, but one who only went to Bucs rookie minicamp as an unsigned tryout player. There were 35 receivers drafted in April, and now Humphries has 26 catches for 250 yards and a touchdown -- that's more receiving yards than 27 of the drafted receivers, and more catches than 30 of them."Adam Humphries came in and has earned everything that he got," coach Lovie Smith said. "He worked himself into a position to get a chance. ... He earned himself a roster spot ... he has been a solid, consistent player in the slot for us. I've liked everything that he has done for us from pretty much the day he got here on. I feel real good about Adam going forward."If he can get 10 catches in the final two games of the season, he'll rank in the top five all-time for a Bucs rookie receiver, behind only Michael Clayton (80 catches), Mike Evans (68), Mike Williams (65), Lawrence Dawsey (55).Humphries will be part of a deep group of young receivers battling for roster spots next fall -- draft pick Kenny Bell has been on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, Donteea Dye has played extensively this season and Evan Spencer was promoted from the practice squad this week.
