If we can get Schwartz than I believe that Gosder is gone along with his cap hit. Just half of that could be used for Schwartz contract. Add in Carter's release and the money saved there can be attributed to his contract no problem. Let's not forget Mankins 7 mil coming off the books. Plus Vincent Jackson 12 mil off the books next year. The team can look at another talented lineman. That would make drafting OL early less of a need, although I still believe the team should draft one in the third or fourth round at least. Getting some young proven vets on the line now to help protect Winston is key while finding gems in the draft. Winston's development is hinged on protection and the run game. The Bucs have 3-4 years before they need to start looking at signing their current rookie and sophomore classes to big contracts. Thankfully David's and McCoy's contracts are up by then as well. So whomever the BUCS sign should be looking at potentially four to five year deal that can come off the books at the right time. Which by then the Bucs need to have found more young studs on the OL. It's simple math, which is easy when one has a franchise QB. Actually when I think of it, the Bucs are in prime position to move up the NFL rankings. They are primed to pick up quality free agents, with the cap space they have to help protect their franchise player. The last two draft classes, which many of us would call a success, won't be needed to be resigned for a few years. The Bucs also have money to spend on the right players. Looking at how things are shaping up, the Bucs can actually draft BPA for the next several drafts, filling the team with young talented players. The Bucs are at a point right now where building through the draft is feasible. I don't see a need to trade back and add picks unless the team used those additional picks to move back up in another round. I wouldn't mind trading later picks in the draft to move up in certain scenarios. In my mind they should do this. Trade away sixth and seventh round picks to get into the fifth and finding more talent. While gems can be found in the last two rounds, I feel that the fifth round is the last of the good talent available. After which you find so so players. At this point it's quality over quantity. I would much rather have three to four quality picks per draft than two to three. If the coaching staff does well scheming and developing talent, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would, dare I say it, be on the up and up.
