Just think for a moment. Licht had an opportunity to lock in Coen as HC but instead went with Bowles who has yet to give us a great defense as a HC... He can't even give us an average defense.

Licht fucked up. It's that simple..5 year extension for Bowles and let the great young offensive mind go kill it a mere 200 miles away?

Licht got cocky after beating the saints and trolled them and look at us now.

Licht put together one of the worst front 7s this team has ever seen.

He should keep his GM job but he's on thin ice for all these shitty decisions.

We had Liam right there in our grasp..what the fuck was he thinking going with Bowles?

Inexcusable management

Licht does NOT have the final say on coaching. I think its pretty clear that comes from the Glazers.

Based on what you exactly?

You don’t fire a coach who has won the division for multiple years because you have a one year OC.  In fact, outside of us doing this with Dirk Koetter, I can’t recall anyone doing this. So it doesn’t matter whose decision it is, no one was going to fire Bowles.

He thinks the talent is there I guarantee it.

Which is why they tried to cut Dean? Took a flyer on Reddick? Tried out SVD?  And ran it back AGAIN with LVD?

The actions this season have been more like 2008 then, say,  2002 or 2020. I know that many here saw this season as "all-in" SB year and that view was amplified with the 5-1 start (despite winning 4 by less than a FG?) BUT IF YOU LOOK AT THE BUCS ACTIONS . . there is almost nothing that suggest they saw it is all-in SB year.

Too many to list, but a couple examples:

You don't try to cut your big $ CB and then when he takes a huge pay cut make him split time with a rookie you're trying to develop? Developing a rookie CB in an "all-in" year?

You don't go with LVD as the lynchpin after the 2024 film. On the team sure, but with someone competent next to him, limited role maybe.

The actual actions of the Bucs are more consistent with an intentionally slow/limited cap (?) rebuild of the D or maybe a "let's see what we got" year with guys like Otton, Hall, SVD.

Right down to the extension of Licht and Bowles.  The collapse of the team might have changed the plans NOW, but the Bucs looked more like they planned to hopefully get to the playoffs this year and then continue a mostly DRAFT-based revamp of the D. So much so they they probably stick with Bowles if the team didnt have this terrible COACHING-related breakdown that has probably forced their hand.

They were never going to go with Coen as HEAD COACH . . and not because of Bowles skin color (pathetic racism all over the Board now) ... because it was not their plan or their style and, in fact, when they did that before recently (Smith > Koetter) it got them nowhere.

THE REAL QUESTION SHOULD BE WHAT NOW?

The Bucs went from worst dead cap (2023) to maybe best in 2026 and they got lots of player answer this season like Otton is a JAG, Dean gone, Hall gone, Reddick is a NOPE. Godwin coming back okay health-wise

Lots of cap, lots of answers on players, and Bowles outliving his usefulness during the transition . . .

Who are the Bucs biggest contract/player questions now?

Dean is gone.

LVD is gone.

Hall gone.

Vea on last year in 2026?

White and Otton would both need team-friendly back up type contracts, BUT are gone with a coaching change

Evans, retiring with a coaching change?

Mayfield? No extension, play it out?

So, before even getting to a change in STYLE of offense or defense, you need on offense two Guards (maybe Mauch but still need depth), a TE, a WR and RBs and on defense basically a front 7

Agree pretty much. I'm not saying he doesn't recognize mistakes such as Reddick or draft busts such as Braswell which Bowles also has accountability for along with Licht. It doesn't change the overall point that Licht undoubtedly believes in the roster he's been putting together for over a decade. That's his "livelihood."   If the team is failing Licht isn't going to offer a mea culpa and say "You know those critics are sorta right I really haven't done that great of a job of getting players lately.  My bad.  Let's keep Todd because what's he supposed to do with the crappy players I've handed him?  I'll just have to do better"  Nope. That ain't how it's going down.

That is kind of the way it went down last season. Those basic words right out of Licht's mouth. Not the part about crappy players Licht delivered, but instead the almost draft-only approach supposedly linked to the dead cap.

That why I asked what now?

Whatever one thinks of Bowles, hes obviously a big part of the Bucs delivering success while they CHOSE to rebuild/reload as they have, but that is all coming crashing down now.

This is correct.

Wasn’t up to Licht.

Glazers weren’t moving on.

They rewarded Bowles and Licht for navigating a cap crunch with extensions. But will the Glazers trust both when they are ready to open up the checkbook again?

Licht yes, Bowles no.

There are natural transition points with teams and this is one of them for the HC. As I posted a few weeks back, you could envision a scenario where they keep Bowles IF they made the playoffs.  But that scenario is probably out even if they made the playoffs after the Panthers game because the game plan was so much of the loss.

Licht has done too much positive for them to move on from him, including navigating the cap space back while winning division championships etc.
