I think Bortles would look good in a Buc uniform.... he won't make it to us though.
maybe they are trying to determine if they should try to move up for him.
I don't think we'll see any block buster trade ups by the Bucs no matter how much they like a QB in this draft.....but if they really do like Bortles or Manziel and one of them is there at 5 or 6.....I think we will probably make that move.
I've recently been ok with Bortles... but I just don't see the fit with Tedford... (only Bridgewater or Garoppolo make sense in his offense.Jags, Titans, Raiders and Vikings have met with most of the top QB's.Jags and Raiders will definitely take a QB IMO.I wouldn't be surprised if Houston takes TB, Jags take BB and Raiders take JM. Not surprised at all...
Just curious, why don't you see Bortles as being someone Tedford could work with? He looks like he would fit just about any offense.
After reading his 2004 playbook, watching what he tends to do and trying to see how BB would fit from watching his highlights - I just see Bortles as an inexact fit ... (I'd don't normally get with comparisons, but he's a less refined, less instinctual Rothlisberger.Mobility when needed, Awareness IN the pocket , the ability to pick a part a defense with Accuracy in the short and mid areas are the significant traits Tedfords looks for and employs in his offenses. I don't see a lot of long ball schematics.Blake is a project with an NFL quality physique. (If they're going to draft a QB high - the only guy that is NFL ready is Bridgewater IMO.)Obviously with a year off and exposure to Lovie, that may have changed Jeff's approach... but I'm not ready to believe it. (Edit) Tedford did emphasize he'd modify scheme to player though...) JMHO

He is pretty cute, but garopollo is more hunky, you know? I guess it would come down to which the Bucs prefer.

What would be the difference between him and Jimmy G as far as fitting into Tedfords scheme?

nothing you said would eliminate Bortles.
IMO - ability to read a defense beyond the first read, the knack for improvising in the pocket, a quicker release and much more accurate.Garoppolo reminds me of Rodgers in ability... if he doesn't completely bomb the wonderlic - we should be targeting the guy. He's a project too - but with a lot more upside.
S&B... it's my opinion (as is yours) And in my mind it doesn't 'eliminate' Bortles, but sure as hell puts him on the bottom of the list of prospects. Who drafts a project QB in the top ten? (ok - Jacksonville...) :)
I think if someone likes Bortles, they should be looking at Tom Savage from Pitt. (slightly bigger, more accurate, throws less INTs, More TDs.)Gil Brandt likes this guy too (apparently) http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000260414/article/tom-savage-the-best-qb-prospect-youve-never-heard-of
From NFL.comBlake Bortles strengths:Outstanding size, stature, bulk and athletic ability for the position. Stands tall in the pocket and delivers the ball in the face of heavy pressure. Keeps his eyes downfield while climbing the pocket. Good field vision and release point. Is efficient throwing on the run and excels on bootlegs and play-action passing. Good zip and accuracy on short-to-intermediate throws -- can fit the ball into tight windows. Nice touch to drop throws in the bucket -- delivers a catchable ball with fine anticipation. Senses pressure and evades the rush. Doesn’t take many unnecessary sacks. Can extend plays with his feet or tuck it and dash for the sticks when the pocket breaks. Surprising foot speed. Plays with confidence and poise. Engineered comeback victories, beat Penn State and Louisville on the road and took a mid-major program to a BCS bowl.
Ive watched a lot Bortles now and I just never come away thinking he's a top 10 prospect. I watch Teddy and my reaction is always he's freakin fantastic. I dont buy any of the talk that Bortles is in consideration for pick 1
Best thing about Bortles - hands down. http://larrybrownsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/blake-bortles-girlfriend-lindsey-duke-bikini.jp g" target="_blank">http://larrybrownsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/blake-bortles-girlfriend-lindsey-duke-bikini.jp g"/> &imgrefurl= http://larrybrownsports.com/college-football/blake-bortles-girlfriend-lindsey-duke/211487&h=260&w=194&sz=1&tbnid=UGA6V34e-q_vhM:&tbnh=186&tbnw=138&zoom=1&usg=__kaofVy7T4YwseIAkNZGjCmIFUeQ=&docid=C9VE5rsl-y0OOM&itg=1&sa=X&ei=TK8MU-2yF4i4yAGG7ICIDQ&ved=0CKABEPwdMAw

and the other half...WEAKNESSES Could stand to hasten his setup and polish his footwork (deteriorates under duress). Could stand to shorten his release -- wraps the ball slightly at the beginning of his windup. Too much effort in his delivery to generate slightly above-average arm strength. Operated in an offense where he made a lot of one-look reads. Does not spin spirals consistently -- too many throws come out with loose wobble (could struggle to cut the wind in blustery conditions). Ordinary deep-ball thrower. Tends to throw off his back foot when pressured (affects accuracy). Works heavily out of the gun -- will have to adapt to snaps under center and deep drops. Operates a dink-and-dunk offense which inflates his completion percentage. Fumbled nine times as a junior and could improve ball handling/security. Play dropped off against Ohio State in 2012 and South Carolina in '13 and will require time to adjust to the closing speed of NFL defensive backs. Is just a two-year starter and can improve his understanding of the game.
