Dum has been horrible . His only decent drafts have come during the Schiano regime , and I think that's because the one thing Schiano is good at is evaluating players , and he knows the college game. Less to do with DUM . HIs Raheem drafts are embarrassingly bad and so are many of his free agent signings. Look at free agency this year :The guy is simply clueless at building a complete team !Ignore DE because Bowers is the answer ? Ogletree was our answer at slot wr ?Crabtree our answer at TE ??Goldson was worth breaking the bank for ??It was a terrible offseason for Dummynik. A few RIGHT moves had us as a playoff contender , instead we regressed . The guy simply sucks at putting a TEAM together . It's like putting a puzzle together , and DOM has failed at finding the right pieces his entire career. He has to go . Bottom line.
Dom has worked under two defensive minded HC...these are his picks because his mentors hired defensive minded coaches so he is emulating his mentors. Glazers have shown they want the flashy offensive head coaches (Gruden, Kelly, Mariucci,Ralph Friedgen, etc).
As much as I'd like to I can't pin Rutgers on Dom. Nothing in the reporting says that was his guy and in fact the reports seemed to say he was being overruled on the hire.
Tom Jones actually made a good point this morning on WDAE....Lets say for a second that this past offseason, Schiano met with Dominik and the Glazers or whoever and said, "You know what? Freeman isn't the guy. I dont think he's the franchise. I want to bring in Carson Palmer." Schiano was then shot down. The season then starts and Freeman has a complete meltdown. Now if that is what happened....Dominik is going to get fired. And Schiano will get another year. That is something that could save Schiano's job.Freeman is on Dominik. In fact, Dominik's biggest problem is that the entire 2009 draft class is gone. Not a single member from that Buccaneer draft class is on this team right now. And the QB you drafted has completely busted. That's a very bad thing to have going for you as a GM in this league.
NotDeadYet: "While defense always has and always will win games, with all the recent rules changes it no longer can accomplish that WITHOUT a good offense. Even Dungy couldn't do it with the stellar defense we had..."So that's a "no" to Lovie?
I'm on the fence with Lovie. He at least did TRY to upgrade the Bear pass game. The ex-Buc on my radar, and I know this is a pipe-dream, is Mike Tomlin. If the Steelers actually let him go (which I seriously doubt), the Glazers need to roll in the Brinks trucks...
I'm retired so not about to undertake the task of going thru all Dominik's vet FA failures. Jackson was a rarity with his success. But then look around at other teams. It is very, very clear that relying on expensive vet FA signings is a really bad idea. Sometimes ya hit the jackpot, but most often ya lose...
