1. I think it is clear that while the offense had issues last year the Bucs made it a point of emphasis to add players in the front seven of the defense for the most part.Ā Josh Hayes was the lone pick in the secondary and he is more likely to be competing at NCB. A lot of the front seven defensive players are aggressive, downhill players and that was sorely lacking from last year's defense.
2. The drafting of Mauch indicates the team is fine with the OTs they have on their roster.Ā I think it is a bit of a gamble but time will tell.
3. No RB drafted which shows that the team likes their current RBs on the roster and view the woes of the running game as result of poor execution/personnel along the OL.
4. Licht drafted a lot of older players which is not the norm for him but I think this may be an indication that Bowles wants more mature players on the roster. Just my speculation on my part.
5. Durham will be replacing Brate's role while Palmer will be taking over Perriman/Miller role on offense.Ā Ā
Agree with all that. Ā Really happy with the positions drafted, so hope the team did their homework on the players. Ā Still need a lot of help but Iām not upset at any of the picks. Ā
1. Needed to walk away with 2-3 immediate "impact" players. Not sure we did.
2. Really didn't like passing on Anton. I had been saying all offseason that it seemed the direction of the FO was to kick Goedeke to RT and move Wirfs to LT. Simply not a fan of moving Wirfs who's already the best RT in the league. Drafting Anton would've given us our bookends for the next 5+ years.Ā
3. Kancey will get a chance right away. But, I feel it'll be "boom or bust" every snap.Ā
4. Mauch will most likely start along with Leverett and Jensen. Should be a solid fit for the zone blocking scheme.
5. Yaya was a reach. Period. I get we didn't have a 4th, but move back. He would've been there in the 4th.Ā
6. Like Dennis for depth and to be a player for when we finally rid ourselves of the Devin White cancer.Ā
7. Like the Payne selection and should be a nice tandem with Otton.
8. Hayes is a JAG and was a reach. Need to sign a vet for NCB.Ā
9. Palmer could play small part of the Lockett role. Love the speed.
10. Ramirez could be a nice project.Ā
Ā
All in all, a typical Licht draft.Ā
Predictable small school IOL in the 2nd round. No sense of value, with plenty of reaches.Ā
That being said, I like this draft significantly better than the last 2 years.

Couldn't have said it better myself. He just drafts based on his value and cannot read the market.
He telegraphed Maunch so hard... teams just waiting to fleece him to move up and sure enough. Then he compounded that with reaching in the 3rd... could have had a GREAT slot corner in the 4th in the Utah kid... Instead he drafts an UDFA in the 6th
He took the right position but lots of reaching so the value wasn't goodĀ
Ā
pretty much agree with alldaway and donkey hunter...not sure I saw enuff from diaby to be 3rd rnd. diaby and hayes seem like reaches..we didnt need to lose a 6th rnd pick and i probably would have grabbed a rb. hope we find some gem undrafted..feel like we need more competition /depth at rb, cb, safety and moreĀ lol. look forward to see undrafted list..think we have depth issues at all positions for the final 53..could be a few undrafted that make the team

In all fairness, I had the chance to shoot the shit with JL this past Monday night at the Arians Foundation Gala.Ā
Mauch was ALWAYS the pick.Ā
You did? That's rad...
I still don't love the value of it but it makes sense. He has his guys and he goes and gets them.
Sometimes it's WirfsĀ
Sometimes is Aguayo
Off topic
damn the rams stretched out 14 picks with no 1st rounder...wonder what sticks
eagle draft and roster scares the crap out of me
i generally like what the ravens eagles and steelers do most years
unpopular opinion but i think the falcons could win division..everything hinges on qb
Initial reaction - I like this draft.Ā
I wanted us to focus on the lines early, take advantage of a deep TE pool and get a speedy receiver later on and we checked those boxes. Would have been nice to get a RB and nickle DB but I get you only have so many picks.
Gotta say, I've been a long time Licht fan but these draft trades are starting to get a bit annoying. Kills him not to have a 4th rounder this year but he gets rid of next years 5th for a late 6th rounder.. All the trade ups but no trade downs even when most of our picks seem like low value at the time.. I get NFL team boards are not all the same as the media boards so hard to say what's value, you need to get your guys but still. Think we could have held onto some picks and even added some more for next year with these picks but oh well.
Value aside, Bowels said at his year end presser we need to get faster up front and they sure did.
Like the Kancey pick. Brings speed and versatility. Think bowles will be able to scheme up some fun stuff with this Dline.Ā Ā Kancey - Vea- Hall with Gains and hopefully Gholston rotating in is nice.Ā
I trust Licht with 2nd round small school Oline, so I have no reason not to believe in Mauch. No one is talking about Fieler playing tackle but hes shown that he can. I think the Oline looks something like - Whirfs - Mauch - Jensen - Hainsey - Goedke with Fieler competing with Goedek and playing swing tackle and Leverette and Stinnie competing on the inside. I can get behind that line. A lot of high draft capital spent in that line so let them try it out.
Yaya - seems like a reach in the 3rd but Ramierez seems like great value in the 6th so I'll wash it out. Happy to come out of the draft with 2 edge players. Daniel Jerimaiah had them as his 102 and 103 players in his top 150. Hopefully one pans out. (Josh Hayes was our only draft pick that didn't make DJs top 150).
Glad we got an ILB this year considering one if not both of White and David could be gone next year. Not sure about the DB but like the late burner receiver.
All in all, solid draft in my eyes
The only player that seemed a reach in terms of value was Diaby IMO but not that much in terms of value as he wasn't going to last till the 5th round.Ā All the other players the Bucs drafted were either fair(Kancey, Mauch), good (Durham, Dennis) or great(Palmer) value.Ā Hayes is an interesting discussion as he should have had a draftable grade but others think he should have gone undrafted.Ā But that is pretty common with 6th/7th rounders.Ā And for that reason you can't say Hayes is a reach or poor value because each team grades those players differently.Ā At that point there isn't much of a difference between 6th, 7th and UDFA players.Ā
I will preface this by saying I'm not the biggest Licht fan as he keeps repeating the same mistakes and same tendencies. The constant trade up for guys he "loves" when he could likely wait it out to their pick and get the same player. He even admitted in an interview he can't control himself with the trade ups and people in the draft room have to hold him back.Ā
The immediate praise he gets for any OL pick. Some of it is fair but Goedkee was a disaster last year. The reaches from the consensus big board on more occasions than nearly any other team. Sometimes it comes off but if you go back through the Bucs drafts a number of times picking the higher guy on the big board would result in a better player.
Ā
In saying all that...this is one of his better drafts. MUCH better than last year's draft. I have already deep dived on most of the picks and compared to players taken around them.
Ā
1.19 Kancey DT - Film, production back up he can be special. Rated around where he was taken. Worried about arm length but that's my only concern. A grade.
Ā
2. 48 Mauch OG - Mauler, should hopefully be a starting guard or at least highly level depth. Rated by some as one of the riskier upside OL selections given he has to move positions at the NFL level. Pass pro needs work. B-
Ā
3. 82 Diaby OLB - High risk as this pick is based mostly off athletic testing. Is the high reward there? I'm not sure. Too upright and wasted movement. VERY RAW. 4.51 40 and elite 10 split but slow off the ball. His teammates are all faster off the ball on film. This is a Licht pick where he loves the guy and the fact they didn't have a 4th round pick. Meh. Ramirez will beat him out for snaps early. If his development explodes with coaches he has a chance.Ā C gradeĀ
Ā
5. 153 Dennis ILB - High grades, good film, questionable athlete. Reminds me of the KJ Britt stlye pick where the main thing holding him back is athletic profile. 4.6 40. Should be better than KJ Britt and the main backup. B grade.Ā
Ā
5. 171 Durham TE- Very good hands, slow with 4.8 40 but surprisingly if you look into it his 10 yards split is around 60-70% percentile. Can get open in short areas. Solid blocker but needs work there. Run blocking grades weren't that great. I personally would've gone for a more athletic TE in this spot for a change up to Otton who is not that athletic himself. But I'm confident we at least got a solid backup TE. You take that in the 5th. B grade
Ā
6. Hayes 181 DB - This pick nearly ruined the draft mainly due to the fact the Bucs are desperate for a nickel/DB depth. They took 1 swing at it and....it was THIS guy??? Come on man. There were better DB's around this pick. This guy wasn't rated by 100's of different draft watchers and sites. Licht out of the box pick so ppl can heap praise on him if there is a miracle and it works out.Ā Ā
6. Palmer 191 WR - Speed and more speed. Not much more to him besides that from I can see but he was product and runs 4.33. Happy to take the chance here. Rated higher on most boards than 191. Value. Interesting the Saints traded up immediately once they saw us pick Palmer. I wonder if they wanted him? They took AT Perry after who was good value also. A- grade
Ā
6. Ramirez 196 OLB - My favourite pick of the draft from a film/value standpoint. Shaq Barrett type with the way he wins but more violent. Technician that flies off the snap despite testing below average. Brett Kollman who I highly respect from a DL perspective rated this guy on the edge of his tier 2 edge guys and said he has potential to be a 10 sack guy.Ā A+ grade
Ā
I am pretending they drafted UDFA pickup Tucker/Banks who had mid round draft grades instead of Hayes and the Diaby pick was swapped with Ramirez who is a better player and prospect. That turns it from a C+ or B- to B+.Ā
Ā
Overall grade -Ā B+
Team got a lot faster on both sides the ball. If we can develop these players and they wanna get better could be one of the drafts you look back on and can't believe how many contributers we got from it. Main thing is they have to stay healthy . Sean Tucker might be my favorite and he was a UDFA hopefully in our new system well have a 1A and 1B.
Ā Why do we pick a 3rd and long specialist at DT in the 1st rd?Ā I'm no GM but I would of traded back and take the Oklahoma OT. The only pick I like is Palmer the WR and maybe the Safety from Kansas ST who will plug the slot.
Barnz1 i like your analysis..pretty much in line w my thoughts
never heard about half of the players we took, so no real feeling about this draft. at least we went after correct roster spots, but it is transition year and there is next years draft to go after QB and OL
we will be fine in the year noone expects anything big
