That's what I'm talking about. I would love to see Mack in a Bucs uniform.
But does it mean that the Bucs aren't finding common ground with Godwin? It would take a lot of cap magic for the Bucs to be able to sign both players. I suppose it's possible. But lets face it the distance between what Godwin can fetch on the open market and what the Bucs are willing to pay could be too much. Godwin has been a trooper through major injuries and two franchise tags. He wants to come back, but how much is he willing to give up after all that? It's that dude in Jacksonville to watch out for. He's got the cash, and he was feeding Godwin plenty of balls beforooe the injury.
Mack is more affordable which allows the re-signing of Godwin.
Bucs have flexibility. Cutting Dean and not picking up whiteheads option opens up about 17.5 mil. Resigning Godwin will save about 11 mil in dead cap compared to the full almost 19 mil dead cap hit if he walks so really Godwin if resigned only costs about 4 mil more than if he walks(based on if he was resigned for 22mil). Tampa can also open up anywhere from another 27-60mil (PR predicted about 27 mil). with restructures so really they’ll have some flexibility to bring in at least one “splash” FA and potentially multiple other solid contributing FA at all of our positions of need
I don't doubt they could do it if they wanted to, but somehow they have to fit in $16-$20 mil for Mack and $20 mil or so for Godwin or push more money down the road. If you want to fit both of them in, then something has to give somewhere else. I don't think Licht will want to fit both of them in, but I could be wrong. Most importantly to Licht he hangs onto his precious draft picks.
There are better, cheaper options than Mack. Chaisson, Alujari

Not disregarding your opinion in the least bro, but Licht loves Godwin. Obviously he’s not going to overpay for either Godwin or Mack, but I think his extension will happen like Baker’ deal did just before FA opens up. I think/hope Evan’s gets extended soon so he’s here next year and it frees up extra cap space this year also, so there will be plenty of cap for both
Mack just turned 34 in February how much does he have left in the tank?

I think that is plan B. If a team wants to overpay for Mack then Licht and the Bucs will be out of the Mack sweepstakes.
if anything, it means Godwin is likely to stay. Bucs would be going all in at that point and if you lose Godwin, you are a worse team. And if they get a deal done before free agency, believe they'd actually save cap money with a 3 year, 70M deal so cap is not an issue.
In terms of Mack, the question is when does Father time get him? I'd like adding him but how much gas is left in the tank?
Licht and Bowles love Godwin and I'm sure he'd prefer to stay here. That's all true. But as much as they love him, they don't have a blank check with his name on it.I don't doubt they could do it if they wanted to, but somehow, they have to fit in $16-$20 mil for Mack and $20 mil or so for Godwin or push more money down the road. It's a business. That was made clear to Godwin when instead of getting a new contract he got the franchise tag for the second time and then he got injured in a game he shouldn't even have been in. He's a classy guy and a team player and he isn't going to be a complainer, but how do you think he feels about all that? Now here he is a free agent without a contract. How team friendly should he be now if another team (such as Jacksonville) is willing to open up their checkbook?

maybe, but by extending the deadline, it seems he is doing a good faith effort to try and stay
Tampa is all he knows and he's got himself a guy like Evans who will command double teams and a top 8 QB in Baker Mayfield.
He can go to a team like Jacksonville but could be troublesome for ability to make playoffs and put up good numbers. i think if we are talking a 3 year, 70M deal with Tampa versus a 3 year, 80M deal with Jacksonville, where he may get cut in year 3....he takes the Tampa deal.
I don't think there's any way Godwin gets that kind of deal from the Bucs. I think the Bucs will offer less than $20 mil per year for essentially two years. If there's a 3rd year from the Bucs that would be pretty much non-guaranteed IMO. Other teams may be able to pony up for that longer contract. Of course, all I'm doing is speculating, but people (including SR) are also speculating when they express confidence that Godwin will be back. I hope Godwin is back in a Bucs uniform at a reasonable contract that doesn't hamstring the Bucs in the future, but that doesn't seem likely.i think if we are talking a 3 year, 70M deal with Tampa versus a 3 year, 80M deal with Jacksonville, where he may get cut in year 3....he takes the Tampa deal.
Either the Bucs will pay more than what they should for what is good for the team, or they won't do that, and he'll sign with another team. I don't have confidence that the Bucs will get Godwin in here with a nice team friendly deal.
I can't see Godwin chasing the money just to end up on a losing team with no chance at the playoffs (Duuuuuuuuuvall). The Bucs and Godwin need to come together and get a deal done that makes both sides satisfied. IMHO Godwin is the player that unlocks the Bucs offense. Lots of key catches and third down conversions. Move the chains, score points, and keep the defense fresh.

less than 20 million? Well then. We ain’t keeping him
I don’t see how he gets less than the Evan’s deal last year. That would be the wheelhouse in my opinion
I don’t care what you do with the defense, if they don’t bring back Godwin, we are 1 and done next year
The two moves have nothing in common. The money for Mack wouldn’t keep us from signing Godwin. Mack is better than nothing, but not quite the splash signing we truly need. But that would be the bare minimum type of move this team would make at the Edge position.
