But lets face it the distance between what Godwin can fetch on the open market and what the Bucs are willing to pay could be too much
This is LVD talking about the Bucs under Licht. Its a big reason why Godwin was very likely to be coming back
“For everybody to just get on board and get on the same page and make things happen ASAP, that’s really underrated,” David said, via a transcript from the team. “I don’t think it’s talked about enough. That just goes to show how much they believe in the guys they bring in. I think is a testament from the ownership all the way down. They want their guys, they believe in their guys, and they’re going to stick with us. I think for the young guys to see that, that gives them even more motivation.”
This is exactly how a team should want their players to feel about the team. Kudos to Licht
Bucs GM Jason Licht: Chris Godwin turned down a team that was “writing him blank checks”
Maybe JC has moved on from Licht to Coen because its [pretty damn tough to take issue with the team Licht help build?
Amazing what Licht has been able to do. Whether the Godwin deal is a good one of course depends on what he produces as opposed to whether another team offered more which they obviously did. It's a backloaded deal. This year Godwin's contract hits this years cap for only $13 mil. 2026 $33.6 mil comes due and 2027 its $30 mil with a $16 mil dead cap hit should the Bucs want to jettison that third year. And $8 mil in void money. So Licht has some more magic to perform next offseason if not sooner. Goedeke and McCollum are both going to command $20+ mil per year IMO and Reddick TBD if they want to resign him. But Licht keeps getting it done so what can I say.Bucs GM Jason Licht: Chris Godwin turned down a team that was “writing him blank checks”

that is ultimately the test, but its already a good deal when you consider its impact on other Buc players.
There was a time when draft picks avoided the Bucs and most decent FAs never wanted to come here. The Glazers turned that around and then Licht has taken it to another level.

Bucs have $33 mil in dead cap space right now this season if that is accurate. So they can easily re-up both McCollum and Goedeke if the want both to return next season. Riddick is a big question mark though.
