I'm of two minds on this issue. Some think it is best to just put a new kid out there and let him learn on the field, others think letting a rookie QB sit for a while is a better way to go. I think that when you're talking about the two guys linked to the #1 overall pick, Mariota and Winston, you need to think about using them in two different ways. With Winston, I believe he has the stuff to take the field on day one and learn by making his mistakes. He's more NFL-ready today, but that doesn't mean he's going to be the best QB of the two in the long run. With Mariota, I believe he needs some time to be ready to operate a typical NFL offense. He's not accustomed to playing with his back to the defense, something that Winston is already comfortable with. If Mariota is the pick, I think there's a good chance that Glennon would be the opening day starter.I prefer Winston and I think the Bucs do, too. I like his fire and swagger and his readiness for the next level. But I certainly wouldn't be distraught if they decided to take the more conservative route and go with the guy who has the spotless off-field background in Mariota.I think with a Winston pick, the Bucs are saying "the future is now" but with a Mariota pick they're saying "we have time to get him ready and add a few more pieces".If you're a Winston fan, would you be good with throwing him to the wolves on day one?If you're a Mariota backer, would you be okay with starting Glennon for a while?
