The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finished the season third overall in scoring with 458 points. That is a massive improvement over last year's team that scored 396 points, a difference of 62 points. Winston threw 33 TDs this year. Was our offense that amazing?!

Year..... Total TDs.... Passing TDs.... Rushing TDs
2018........ 47 .......... 36 ............ 11
2018........ 48 .......... 33 ............ 15

This is a bit odd. Our offense only put up one extra TD than last year's offense. If we were to only apply 6 points per TD, we get 282 points in 2018 and 288 points in 2019.

2018: 396 total points - 282 offensive points = 114 points (non-offensive points scored)
2019: 458 total points - 288 offensive points = 170 points (non-offensive points scored)

So where did the other scoring come from? Let's look at defensive TDs scored by the Bucs.

2018 Def TDs: 2 (Pick-6 = 0, Pickup-6 = 0)
2019 Def TDs: 6 (Pick-6 = 2, Pickup-6 = 4)

This year's Bucs defense had an additional 4 TD advantage over last year's defense.

Non-Offensive points (NOP): Defense
2018: 114 NOP - 12 Def scoring points = 102 points (not scored by the offense or defense)
2019: 170 NOP - 36 Def scoring points = 134 points (not scored by the offense or defense)

We can now look at our Special teams. Last year, we had to split between Catanzaro and Santos. This year, we have rookie Gay.

2018: Cat and Santos produced 100 points. 40-49 yards = 4/6; 50+ = 0/4
2019: Gay produced 124 points. 40-49 yards = 11/14; 50+ = 5/8

Gay's leg was simply superior to Cat and Santos. The rookie proved to be a valuable long-rage weapon that we haven't possessed in a while. He generated 15 points from 50+ yards whereas our previous kickers provided no such offense.

Off, Def, and ST scoring
2018: 102 points (Non-off or def) - 100 points ST kicking = 2 points (non-off, def, ST kicking)
2019: 134 points (Non-off or def) - 124 points ST kicking = 10 points (non-off, def, ST kicking)

Oh... let's not forget our 2-point conversion points, to account for all the scoring.

2018 2-point conversions = 1 (2 points)
2019 2-point conversions = 5 (10 points)

Conclusion
Our offense wasn't as great as 2018's offense. But our team scoring outside of the offense vastly improved our overall scoring. This year's defense added 36 points (24 more points than last year's defense) and Gay added 124 points (24 more points than last year's kicking duo).

DC Bowles deserves credit for an opportunistic defense and GM Licht deserves credit for K Gay, despite his abysmal last game performance. Our offensive scoring wasn't really much of an upgrade.
