Lovie has been working hard and preparing for his next chance. He's a smart guy, and I think he knows he needs more offense.
On the surface that sound great but when you stop and think about it it isn't a good thing. That sounds like it took him getting fired to realise he might need some offense and work on that but he never thought of it during his 9 years he was in Chicago? That worries me big time, I get he did know he needed offense while with the Bears which is why Martz came in BUT that didn't work.I can't see him magically fixing the offensive issues he had for 9 years just because he had a year off.
umm...I'm pretty sure he tried to fix the offensive woes by hiring different OC's and even upgraded the QB spot. Martz just wasn't a good hire for their personnel and I think Jerry Angelo had more to do with that more than anything.
That's the point, he already knew it was an issue and did try to fix it, why will he suddenly be able to do that because he's had a year off?I'm not sold on him getting the right OC to fix the issues that plagued him, 9 years, he had 9 years to fix them and couldn't, 1 year sat at home isn't likely to be the spark.

how about the 9 years?

..because he can bring in his own guy and own offensive philosophy and won't have a dumbass GM hovering over him with personnel decisions who can't bring in talent to save his goddamn life.

I think it was King at SI who wrote an article arguing that the once unpopular "retread" was the best NFL coaching candidate, specifically the talented retread that just didnt get all the way there on the first go around. He argued that this type coach was one who had learned and was ready to apply the knowledge.
Well and as I argued elsewhere Lovie never had the best roster - especially at QB. You could make the argument that Bellichek is just a product of Tom Brady or Shanny is nothing without Elway but Lovie won without that superstar level QB and that isn't easy to do.
How nasty would it be to see the Bucs sign Lovie Smith as HC, David Shaw as OC, and Rod Marinelli as DC?

Uh...... Tell me how you think they can plan to lure one the best head coaches in college football from a perennial title contender with tons of job security and the ability to practically command whatever salary he pleases to be the OC here?
Jesus, I'm just being speculative.......

I was expecting an elaborate plan
Get shaw hooked on crack and tell him we're the only people who have any?Worked with freeman, well, ..until he found out you can get the stuff just about anywhere.

That's a start
Averaging 9 wins a season and a Super Bowl berth sounds pretty friggin good to me about now.
And it isn't like Lovie went 4-12 in his last season up there, either. He was fired after 10-6, like a couple of other coaches we know.
As I said before, unless.the glazers approach changes, I'm not so sure changing coaches matters as much as it should. This was the right move, and looking at lovie isn't a bad idea either, but the overall support of the owners has to change, as well as the choices being made. Lovie has a lot a flashy credentials, but i'd still like it if they did their homework first and not jump the gun.
I actually don't know if the Glazers have the cojones to pull this off......and I was never a big Jon Gruden fan.....but I actually think that Jay Gruden might be the perfect fit for a lot of reasons.
Everyone keeps talking about how great a coach Marinelli is ,and maybe he is , but why does he keep bouncing from job to job because every team he coaches ends up sucking ?? LOL Just curious. Strictly bad luck ? Perhaps the Emperor has no Clothes ??
