The Buccaneers need a new DL to replace everyone except Vea on the line. 2 new LBer's, 3 new pass rushers, 2 new CB's, 2 new Safeties.

@michaelmyersisabucsfan - Kancey is a keeper. He just needs to work on finishing. You don’t easily find guys with his explosive first step and penetration. Most players wouldn’t have gotten to Daniels on that last play to even be able to pull his towel.

@biggs3535 - it makes a huge difference. And Bowles defense was best when he had two edge rushers and didn’t blitz as much (I.e. - Super Bowl playoff run). Good offenses, Rams, 49ers, Lions, etc. Will carve up our constant blitzes. If Bowles doesn’t take a look at how he runs his defensive scheme and make changes, then he won’t be around much longer. And that includes what his positional priorities are.

I do not think a stud edge rusher makes a difference because Bowles is still going to want to blitz.

I hope that’s not the case. Obviously, Bowles will still blitz. All DC’s do. But you don’t need to blitz as much if you have Mad Maxx screaming off the edge.

Not so sure that will be the case. Todd won't be able to resist.

I mean, I'n all for making a big splash in FA for a premier EDGE; but not with Bowles as the HC/DC.

It would be a waste.

You should change "would" to "will."  Bowles isn't going anywhere.

But just X out the Maxx Crosby talk.  The Raiders won't trade him.  He's their draw.  Unless Brady is going to suit up again, what do they have?  It's like if the Bucs had to rebuild they still wouldn't trade Mike Evans.  It would piss of the fans too much.  At some point you still have to sell tickets and please the fan base. Please stop with the Crosby talk.

like it was with Shaq Barrett?

Kidding aside, both JPP and Barrett saw declining sacks number under Bowles BUT as the defense was improving to win a Super Bowl.

If we got a premier edge (or even a yet unrealized talent like Barrett) the defense would be exponentially better (assuming good health). Diaby would likely improve, the opportunities for Vea and Kancey would improve. Turnovers should improve. The defense overall would improve.

I doubt Bowles was zone blitzing because he is fascinated by watching Diaby in coverage.  Maybe, who knows?

@bucsbits - exactly! But I do think Bowles likes to think of himself as the blitz guru and he’d prefer to have to create his own pressure over anything else. And his scheme has never setup a corner with high interception numbers.

Which is why he blitz at the least rate on the biggest stage?

Who knows? Maybe you’re right but to me he hardly seems an ego maniac.

Bowles talks most about “chess piece” players. Guys that can do multiple things. I take that to mean that given the talent to do so his basic defensive philosophy is show one thing pre-snap do another post.

that’s sort of the way for most successful defenses so not really controversial

@bucsbits - again, it’s more about what a coach is comfortable with. That’s what he knows… blitz. He hasn’t shown me that he can adjust, aside from a few games, from his scheme. And teams know that.

You're right, who knows what Bowles is thinking?

Here's what we know are facts (in regards to Diaby):

2023 Sack Total - 7.5

2024 Sack Total - 4.5

2023 Pass Coverage Rate - 9%

2024 Pass Coverage Rate - 18%

Yaya had nearly 300 less snaps last year and produced nearly double the sacks.

Maybe Todd should spend more time actually rushing the QB with his best pass rushers, instead of constantly putting them in pass coverage (where they suck).

That's why I'm not passing judgement on Yaya or Braswell, as our idiot DC isn't putting them in the best position to succeed.

The problem is Bowles would blitz but he had corners playing man to man early on as the DC for the Bucs when Arians was the coach. Now he blitzes and he has his corners playing soft zone which doesn't work.

You mean Josh Hayes?

Hayes isn't a boundary CB in zone or m2m.  Like I said before the decisions made on defense in 2024 were bad.  Also, cutting Merriweather wasn't a stroke of genius as he ended up being the best safety on the team in 2024.
