DH, come on now lol. Certainly we can find some come ground here, right?
Of course we can. I don't feel like I've been rude/condescending/insulting.
While they are executing said blitz, what are the EDGE players doing? What is their role/assignment in the play?

On the exact play I posted ("said blitz") Diaby is rushing BUT also has COVERAGE responsibility IF the RB comes out
the other edge is rushing
You obviously understand that in a zone blitz Bowles is NOT saying to himself "I think Diaby can cover that RB better than Dean", right? or even LVD?
The OBJECT is to get pressure
DH, do you agree?

So, he's in pass coverage. Something he's absolutely awful at. And, something Todd made him do at a significantly higher rate than last year.
"Opposing offenses have caught on to Bowles’ blitz-happy tendencies over the years and are taking advantage of those outside linebackers who drop into coverage by targeting them with passes when they do. That’s what Jayden Daniels did to Diaby on Sunday night, throwing that outlet pass to Ekeler on that game-changing 18-yard catch-and-run...
...Maybe getting more reps actually rushing the passer instead of dropping into coverage will result in more sacks next year?
Wild theory, I know."
For once, I actually agree with SR.

Well, considering that Bowles hasn't figure out the elusive mystery of timeouts, the concept of game management 101, and legitimately claimed in a presser last year that Devin White was the 2nd best player on the team; I honestly don't know what the hell Todd thinks.
Seriously.

Okay, fair enough.

Just his opinion, but look at the difference between offense and defense when it comes to the ratio of "lock to make the roster" and "bubble."
he begins with "the defense needs a bit of an overhaul"
Do you read that as saying Bowles drops Diaby to cover guys downfield? As opposed to as part of a blitz package?
So, what are they doing when they drop?
Blitzing the QB, obviously. And the LB’s/DB’s that are rushing the passer are clearly in coverage. This is easy stuff.

"your" right . . . very easy
Biggs, I GUARANTEE you will NEVER honestly answer the question I posed to DH
Heres your chance to prove me wrong. I make that guarantee because youre ONLY a troll.
I'd like the team to focus overall on possession. I think if they can find ways to possess the ball more than other team it will translate to more overall points from offensive juggernaut team we have. There was not a focus enough on possession. Turnovers is huge. We didn't get enough and turned the ball over too much. Ended drives with penalties. So it's a fundamental part of football that if they do it right has a lot of other pieces in place to dominate. So if they can go get some difference makers on defense who can get the ball or stop drives we are in good shape. Baker needs to focus on limiting ints. Get bucky and tucker more carries. Need another weapon for baker too I'd like to keep Godwin. We could also draft another guy as Mike is getting older and probably wanting to wind down soon but that might be a year or two away before really needing to look at that option. But if it's there maybe pull the trigger. Can also get someone or two in fa. Edge rush is obviously a need. Would probably help us get off the field more. Whatever answers we can find to get keep and possess the ball we will win. Simple yet effective recipe for this team.
Lack of turnovers is a big one which is why a zone CB, ILB and OLB that can drop into zone coverage is a big three that needs to be addressed. Drafting another DB to play nickel so Smith can go to safety full time with Winfield is a possibility too.
@michaelmyersisabucsfan - Kancey is a keeper. He just needs to work on finishing. You don’t easily find guys with his explosive first step and penetration. Most players wouldn’t have gotten to Daniels on that last play to even be able to pull his towel.
He has trhe arm length of a 12 year old. Someone with normal length arms would have mad the tackle. Kancey is a nice rotational back up guy that plays 10 snaps each game.
Need EDGE, ILB, and IDL more than anything else.
No point in using premium draft capital on a CB that will play 90% of their snaps in zone.

How is the defense going to be overhauled?
That is some lazy writing.
Kancey, Vea, and Hall are all coming back as starters.
Diaby has one end locked down as a starter, Dennis is still on the roster and LVD is a near lock to be re-signed. JJ Russell is a RFA and will be the third LB behind LVD and Dennis
T. Smith will be the starting NCB or Safety opposite of Winfield Jr.
McCollum has one boundary CB starting spot locked up.
So the only question marks on defense is the following:
Who is the starting safety OR NCB but if Whitehead is healthy then T. smith is your starting NCB and Whitehead receives another shot at the safety starting opposite of Winfield. Merriweather is an ERFA so he is guaranteed to return as the third safety.
IF Dean is traded that leaves one boundary CB and edge opposite of Diaby as holes on the roster. Two starting spot presumably is not an overhaul and realistically it is one spot if Dean is NOT traded which is edge opposite of Diaby. Braswell will be the third edge off the bench unless that changes.
Depth on the DL, ILB and DBs needs work but I would not call that an ovrehaul.
Bucs currently have 9 of their current 11 defensive starters under contract for 2025 season.
Bucs currently have 9 of their current 11 defensive starters under contract for 2025 season.
yep, the best defense of the last few years . . on paper! :-)
You seem to be taking the position that a BODY on the roster in 2024 = a starter in 2025 when even the GM has said they need to upgrade/rebuild
So, for example, the obviously need another edge rusher. . . so that is ONE
They need 2 or 3 LBS. You say Dennis and LVD. If LVD is a starter next year the Bucs are going backwards. Dennis has a history of injuries, so at most he competes for a spot. He was not considered good enough this year to take the spot away from Britt full time. Think about that. maybe that might temper some expectations. SO . . that is mostly likely TWO.
When you get to the DBs, I agree they want Smith to be the NCB, but I doubt they feel strongly about Whitehead because he really struggled and Merriweather is just a back up. Dean is gone and you need DEPTH behind both CB spots, at a minimum. So this is AT LEAST TWO, if not more.
They cannot have Josh Hayes as the first CB off the bench
So that would be 5 . . . half the defense they need to upgrade/overhaul
And they need guys like Winfield to perform
