If he’s on the fied I wish Bowles would at least send him after the QB. That’s the one thing he used to excel at.
and one thing we really need
Didn't want to start a new topic for this, so figured I'd drop it here. it was really refreshing to hear the announcers for the game last week actually calling out players on both sides as well as deficiencies. Sometimes it feels that our opinions as fans are minimized, so it was nice actually hearing some of those concerns mentioned. Also enjoyed todays Fab 5 on the topic of White playing himself out of town.
Tried reading the Fab 5 but my it was making my eyes bleed.
White was never good. Most of us knew Allen was better and at a more important position. The 2020 season was not as good as people think. At one point in the season he was giving up 91 yards passing a game, just himself. The Vikings converted three 4th downs by throwing at him. We were lucky to win that game with all the Viking missed kicks and the PI on Hail Mary.
As for the playoff run, first of all he missed the Washington game and his replacement made the biggest play of the game when he tipped the pass that SMB picked off. Which brings up my point that linebackers are going to get INTs, sacks and fumble recoveries by default. They’re in the middle of the field where all the action is.
He was always bad in run fits and worse in coverage. Now the players around him aren’t nearly as good and he’s being focused on. He was always this bad, the team was just better.
This is two top 5 busts for Licht. But I’m sure his supporters will blame this on Lovie or Mike Smith somehow.
Licht has hit on some top picks, and those are cornerstones of the franchise. Evans, Vea and Wirfs. That is just a reminder of what could have been with some of the other picks. When they don't work out, it leaves a big hole because of what you need them to do - they should be doing what those three guys I mentioned are doing for your team. Not every pick works out for any team. Devin Bush was a worse pick than White. Mariotta was probably worse than Winston.Tried reading the Fab 5 but my it was making my eyes bleed.

It's not an overall evaluation of Licht, but when you look at those home runs he hit with Evans, Vea and Wirfs, it just makes you wonder what could have been if those picks of White, Howard, and Hargreaves had been good picks. (We got bailed out with Winston because of that other guy who showed up). Kancey looks like a good one, but even if you put him in the win column, Licht is 4-8 on the top 20 picks and that's not anything to write home about. Nobody is going to hit on all of their top picks, but just as much as those home run picks have become names that belong on the ring of honor some day, that's how big of a hole is left by those picks that struck out.
Now we'll have a huge empty spot at linebacker instead of one of the Bucs all time great linebackers playing for us next year. We're going to get another high pick, probably top ten. If you have a winning franchise, you presumably don't get a lot of them. Licht has to make the most of this pick. For all the other players we get in the 2nd round or UDFAs that surprise us, they don't make up for not hitting on a top ten pick. It's very hard to win in the NFL when your top picks don't work out.

Every time Devin White steps on the field, we have a huge empty spot at linebacker.
Where the hell have you been since 2019?
Not sure the Glazers put White fully on Licht, especially not while Arians is around.
Well, as SR pointed out, White was pretty good in his first two years. That's why they have tolerated his substandard play in his recent years, because of the hope that he's still got it in him. That hope is about as realistic as the Bucs beating the Cowboys in the wild card game. It's worse having him in there rather than another garden variety player we would probably have dug up somewhere if we didn't have White on the team. Now we'll have a huge empty spot at linebacker

We should be talking about how licht is going to find $100 mil for White and still be able to sign Winfield and Wirfs. Instead, there is even less debate than with Winston. With Winston there was still some debate about whether to resign the guy. With White there is not one person I've heard who wants to bring him back at any price. I haven't even heard someone say "Well, if he can't get his contract on the open market, maybe we can bring him back for a bargain basement one year prove it deal..." or anything like that, not after his performance this year. At this point his future career will probably be similar to Hargreaves. He'll bounce around the league for a couple years filling in when teams are desperate, and then he'll be gone.

No, he wasn’t.
White needs to now be playing for his job it seems. As if he doesn't, the team could cut him sooner rather than later. A matter of when not if or how, or why or where even!
White mentally checked out this off season. It is not about physical ability because the attention to details are simply not there as he is going through the motions. Keeping Evans and LVD this upcoming off season is a no brainer.
