their ability to extend drives occasionally thus keeping those great defenses on the sidelines resting is undeniable!!

Luck is mobile, so isn't Flacco and Rogers. It's not about mobility, sure its a good thing but being a QB is about throwing the football and taking off for a 5 yard gain on 3 and 4 is great. But doing so and missing a chance at a big passing play is not so great. You think of guys like Wilson, Kaep and RGIII as guys that can run because they do, often. But guys like Rogers, Luck, Flacco and even Brees can run just rarely find themselves in a position where running is their best option. So would I like a runner? Sure, but only if I can be assured that he'll exhaust his passing options before running.

I think the word I forgot in my OP was "escapability".I don't need a QB that is going to run the read on every down. I need a QB that can evade a pass rush though. In today's game, you limit your offense if your QB can't get out of the pocket and make plays with his feet.

I absolutely think it helps to have a QB with mobility.Bridgewater and Bortles have mobility.  No thank you to Manziel.

I'm not crazy about him either, but I wouldn't be shaking my head like I would if we drafted Manziel.

Not that it matters what any of us say... but state your case against Manziel. I'm just curious.

Of course it helps to have a qb with mobility. I think to an extent Brady and Manning are mobile enough because they sense pressure coming and are able to get in position to make the play. You need that guy with that sense and not running just to run. That's where you get yourself killed and let your team down. Also make dumb plays and throw picks. Everybody wants a QB who can run. It's a scarce thing. You have so many pretenders at it and you can be tricked easily to think you have a guy who can. Rodgers is another guy who can run and throw effectively. Him coming out into the nfl you weren't sure if he was gonna be one of those pretenders or the guy who can. I would like to have one of those guys but who doesn't? I just want a guy who can win the big games really. If he's not mobile I guess that's fine. Johnson wasn't mobile but was good enough to win the big game. Of course our defense had a lot to do with that but it always does.

Rodgers is ideal.....that's why he's the most complete QB in the game. Moves just enuff....that's all i ask.

Mobility is great, but once they get older and don't have the athletic ability that they had when they were younger, Aaron Rodgers and Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson will still be very good QBs because they are also good "traditional" QBs.

Not that it matters what any of us say... but state your case against Manziel. I'm just curious.

Let me first acknowledge a couple qualities that make him an intriguing prospect.1) He's a fierce competitor.2) His instincts are amazing.3) His agility is amazing. However, for an NFL QB to be consistently successful, they need to be amazing in the other 90% of plays where crazy heroics do not come into play.  Tom Brady converts the third down when the defense is playing zone by making the right read on time.  To say that Manziel could do that is a projection, because hasn't had to, while other prospects have already done it countless times and are ahead of the game.Ben Roethlisberger has been inconsistent but successful, and his size allows him to absorb all those hits.  Kaepernick has a great team around him, has more arm talent than Manziel, and his size allows him to absorb all those hits.  Newton has improved as a passer, but is not yet elite, and has the size to absorb hits and has more arm talent than Manziel.RG3 is similarly built, looked terrible this year when defenses were able to focus on the passing game, and he has more arm talent than Manziel.Manziel will either a) be an iron man despite his size and thrive in an extremely solid team with creative playcalling (read: not the Bucs as of now), b) somehow avoid the Jake Locker path, make enough progress as a passer to be at least above-average, and be a unique talent in the NFL that can thrive equally well when things break down as not (read: best case scenario), orc) show flashes as he succeeds at the 10% of plays that require crazy freelancing, while freelancing plays that he shouldn't have to if he were more competent at reading defenses and making good decisions, and slowly turning the fanbase against him over the course of his entire rookie contract as he never becomes something he's not.I think it is c.All this without his maturity issues.

The QB can't just be an athlete with great speed and agility but suck as a QB. He can't be a guy that just runs first all the time and can't win from the pocket. Unfortunately when some fans hear "mobile QB"....this description is all they can think of.What most people really want is a QB with the strength, speed, quickness, and 2nd sense to avoid sacks and extend plays, as well as the ability to keep their eyes down field and throw on the run so they can make use of that mobility. The ideal mix of pocket passer and scrambler is Romo, Rodgers, Luck, and Wilson. Ben Rapistberger has great escapability. He uses more strength and agility than great speed or quickness, but you get the same result. Alex Smith is actually pretty mobile when he needs to be. So does Brees. Kap and Cam could be in there too, but I think Cam runs too much and Kap really isn't a very good passer when he has to stay in the pocket. RG3, until he proves otherwise, is not in this group. It appears he cannot win without running.

Agreed. The QB has to be a good QB first. The running is an added bonus that can overcome some passing deficiencies for a while, but at the end of the day, the guy has to be a good QB.I think all of these young guys are going to turn into good QBs that also can run. I'm higher on RG3 than most. His rookie passing stats are ridiculous.
