#Bucs neutral tendencies against the Saints (1st/2nd down outside of 2-minute warning with game outcome still contested and not in low RZ):
36 plays total
78% usage of 11p (17% 12p - 6% 13p)
58% of plays under center
47% of plays utilized pre-snap motion
58% Pass rate
-45% pass rate on 1D
- Josh Queipo
Does that say -45% pass on first down? The minus is a typo?
so neutral they were 55/45 on 1D
58% Pass rate
Pete Carroll approved.
Canales is running a modern-NFL offensive philosophy, like the majority of posters anticipated based on Waldron's offensive success in Seattle, and the team is 3-1 with Baker Mayfield at QB. It has been refreshing to watch, as opposed to the shit-show we witnessed last season.
The Analytic Guy approach is to say “you don’t have to be successful running to PA pass”
Bucs prove that.
the flip side is the Eagles game. When they run for 6-7 yards on 1st down you better believe it’s tougher to defend that second and 3 because it could be ANY play.
When they ran for those 6-7 yards in 11 and then back out in 11 again for 2nd and 3, even tougher.
This is why Bowles ant most DCs are trying to stop the run first.
last year the Bucs under Leftwich/Brady ABANDONED the run, over the objection of Bowles, the run game coordinator etc.
just by restoring BALANCE Canales has a lesser skilled team performing
Does that say -45% pass on first down? The minus is a typo?
I copied the Tweet in full, so no.
My guess is that it’s 58% pass on neutral scenario 1st and 2nd downs with 45% on 1st downs.
That’s what it reads to me. Could be wrong though.
It has been refreshing to watch, as opposed to the shit-show we witnessed last season.
The route concepts alone are the biggest difference IMO (as well as many others who are sharing/commenting on game film).
The passing philosophy is modern and QB friendly.
A guy like Baker didn’t just wake up and become this efficient after a career thus far marred in constant turnovers.
The scary thing (in a good way), is that Canales has openly said they’ve only scratched the surface of the playbook.
And, think of all the big, explosive TD plays Baker has missed.
Guy could’ve been legitimately sitting at a 12-2 TD/INT ratio at the Bye.

It's night and day difference. I have no idea how the people who defended Leftwich nonstop can say otherwise.

Very good point. While Mayfield has played very well overall, he's missed a lot of plays out there. To be fair to him, you can say that for just about every QB out there. But it is highlighting the job Canales is doing at offensive philosophy in general, play design specifically, and pretty good play calling for a first-timer.
Arians Brady and Leftwich the kings of MODERN FOOTBALL technique of “layering”
“No one – not anywhere – does a better job of layering concepts than Bruce Arians, Byron Leftwich, Tom Brady, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
At root, layering is about keeping the defense off balance. About asking linebackers to shuffle their feet, rather than triggering and firing one way or the other. About having the safeties creep down or shuffle back, not knowing if their eyes are lying to them one way or the other.
Arians, Leftwich and company remain among the best (and we’re splitting hairs between Tampa and Green Bay) at tying their run-game to their play-action game – and building in RPOs off those same structures. Tying the two together – having the action look, feel, sound like a run play at each and every junction – can keep the defense off balance. The Bucs run play-action on only 20-odd percent of dropbacks. And that figure has dropped throughout the season — they’re dead stinking last in play-action rate since their bye.”
lmao
the thing that happened to the Bucs is that they abandoned the run because they couldn’t beginning in the 2021 season and to an extreme level in 2022
BRADY and Leftwich in charge of the offense
“layering” is at the core of McVey, Waldron, Siriani
it was also the core of the Bucs running game. They literally ran a core play and then built off it to show the same look but then change.
if you Google the quote above you should see that one thing that really crushed the Bucs offense was NO GRONK because he was as likely to decapitate a defender with a block as he was to leave a LB or CB in the dust. That and no run game or commitment to run game basically made the Bucs offense the Brady Gun and Shoot
lolz
I won't be responding to anymore of your nonsense.

Oh, no doubt. Not singling him out, but there just seems to be A LOT with him.
Again, I think it's a mix of the following:
- Still getting acclimated with the new system
- Still getting acclimated with the new players
- Being a bit trigger shy
- Not seeing the plays/inaccurate throws
But, as you accurately references, it's highlighting the huge changes Canales has brought to this offense.
I implore people to watch the film when it comes to the passing philosophy. Night and day from last year.
It's EASILY the biggest change from last year.
Can't believe we had idiot Leftwich defenders last year. Dude was a total dud and completely over his head.#Bucs neutral tendencies against the Saints (1st/2nd down outside of 2-minute warning with game outcome still contested and not in low RZ):

One thing that I don't like is the fear that we're gonna lose Canales after this season, its only been 4 games and hes been link to the Bears HC job. Don't be afraid to lose Canales because this place is a very attractive place to coach now after seeing what we're doing this season. Canales has literally been an OC for 6months calm the gas, he's gonna be a HC someday but seriously don't be afraid to lose him, and if a team wants to hire him after 1 season good for him, he still needs time to develop to be a good HC canidate. He needs to learn scheme he likes to run what he likes to do, and who his staff is, one of which will definitely be Izken the Wr coach who followed him, but who are his defensive coaches. Sometimes the national media guys read these fan forums and start getting hyped as much as we are for their pieces, but the media needs to relax, hes good, but he's not ready yet lol.
Also what owner is gonna be sold immediately on a new guy whos been an OC for 1 season with a top 15 offense, owners are gonna be patient and usually pick the safe route or hot name, noone even knew who he was 6 months ago and grumbled at the pickup. Canales if he stays here for another 2-4 years building his resume hes gonna have a good choice of HC jobs available to him, we just don't panic and be antsy. I believe Tampa is an attractive place to coach now, and could be a perennial playoff team year in year out if we convincingly make the playoffs this year.
FWIW, he’s not actually linked to the Bears job. It was a PFF article about the Bears woes that tried to identify potential QB/Offense friendly coaches. Canales was one of six.
