I have been looking at our cap issues for the last few weeks. Outside of the moves already done, which do not make much of a dent I don’t see what can happen other than trades or restructuring a few which only pushes the problem down the road. What are some ideas??
I mean they can’t really cut anyone else without hurting the team
maybe Russell gage and Shaq Barrett
and I’d argue we would want to keep Shaq
rest should be restructurings

"Bucs have restructured contracts with veterans Vita Vea, Carlton Davis, Ryan Jensen and Chris Godwin to create $44 million in 2023 cap space."
I haven’t come across anything that shows the restructured contracts other the vea. I assume they are working on it.
After Vea restructure, it appears we're still 32 million in the hole.
Dump Succop, save 3.75 million.
Dump Mason, save 5.27 million.
Make 10 million of Carlton Davis' 2023 salary a bonus, spread over 2 years, save 5 million.
Trade Devin White, save 11.7 million.
Cut Russell Gage, save 2.8 million
That leaves about 3-4 million left to trim.
We could restructure Evans and/or Godwin, to get us under. Maybe extend Evans for 3 years, get his 1st year cap hit low with small salary and bonus to spread over 3 years.
These moves give us tiny breathing room under the cap, but not enough to sign any significant free agents.

Cutting Barrett pre-June 1 does nothing to help and restructure just pushes it down the road for a guy who we don't even know will be a decent player after the Achilles. We're pretty screwed with Barrett's contract. After June 1, we could get some relief by releasing him, but that doesn't help us for the March 15 target.
Extending Winfield and/or Wirfs doesn't get us anything under the cap as their current cap hits are both under 3 million.

There's not a ton of wiggle room.

I don't believe it's 44 million space -- I don't think that math works. I believe it is 44 million in relief, which probably puts us about 3 million under cap.

With a lot of holes to fill with losing Sean Murphy Bunting, Lavonte David, Logan Ryan, Mike Edwards, Keanu Neal and a number of D line men to boot to free agency. The Bucs also need to replace an OT.
