“Todd Bowles lost the support once he essentially ended Brady's career.”
Lol.
Arians said this was the most talented team yet!
they had the second highest superbowl odds entering the season behind Buffalo.
now, no doubt the team was less talented than entering 2021 season - no AB, Gronk, Marpet, and Jensen but still would have expected 11 wins out of the team.
they scratched and clawed their way to 8 wins - 3 of which were remarkable combacks by Brady - Saints, Rams, and Cardinals game.
Hopefully you placed a bet?
my point is that Bowles would’ve been fired already if he killed Brady’s sure-fire Super Bowl win lol
Secondary point - no way the powers inside OBP (including Arians) thought this team - minus Marpet Gronk etc- was a legit SB contender absent incredible play from TB.
third point - the job was literally dropped onto Bowles with a double whammy of Brady in retiring and Arusha retiring lol. PR even reported on the call.
(as an aside, the Bucs also used the hype to require season ticket holders to buy 2 years right? Hmmmmmmmm)
I am not sure Bowles is a good HC but I am sure the Bucs and Bowles recognized a transition was coming.
could be wrong but didn’t they give Bowles a 5 year deal?
they had the second highest superbowl odds entering the season behind Buffalo.
Well, those guys were idiots. The football savants among us knew this was a 8-9 football team all along.
Hopefully you placed a bet?

not necessarily. he is a first year head coach of a 5 year deal. I am sure ownership expected more than a losing record and first round playoff exit. Maybe the Bucs feel less back lash if you have a rebuild year in 2023 and fire him in 2024, more attractive option. So no, i dont think Bowles keeping his job after one year is an "Attay boy" by any stretch.
In terms of the 2 year season tickets, you are absolutely right. Once Brady retired, they expected to have to bite the bullet.
i think the point you are missing is just how awful the Bucs looked last year with coaching being a major factor.
what would you put the %s at
Bowles is fired after 2023 season
Bowles is head coach for at least the duration of the 5 year deal
Bowles is head coach for 2023 and 2024 season
other?
Of course they knew this day was coming from the day they wrote the Brady contract with a league minimum base salary. Arians resigned and Bowles was hired as head coach shortly after that contract, details of which were available to the public, was done. Bowles was the head coach when other players like Hicks and Jones were signed who's signing-bonuses are also contributing to the cap hit. There certainly is no reason to be sorry for Todd Bowles for being in this predicament. Technically, he didn't have to take the job. He knew what kind of job it was. The job was to take the Bucs on a Superbowl run and then deal with the cap hell later. He's been a full participant in how the Bucs are here in the spot they are in. If you get a chance to be a NFL head coach you have to take it, but nevertheless he knew the score when he signed on.
I wasn’t suggesting anyone should feel sorry for Bowles
I am suggesting that that everyone’s eyes were open and everyone inside OBP knew more about the actual team than fans. And in that environment Bowles got a five year deal.
my post was a response to the now evaporated suggestion that Bowles killed a sure fire SB lol
Bowles did no such thing. That’s why he wasn’t fired YET.
The Bucs also needed a coach who would take them through the cap hell. Marriage of convenience.
When did Arians say “most talented team?” When did team announce season tic holders had to up for 2 years?
“Before the season began the Bucs had high expectations as evidenced by them being the second favorite team to win the Super Bowl with +700 odds - coming behind the Buffalo Bills. Now sitting below .500, with a 4-5 record, the Buccaneers' Super Bowl future odds have taken a dive to +2000. Even with the steep drop in odds, the Bucs find themselves still within the top 10 teams to win the Super Bowl. “
Weak division and GOAT
Could the Bucs have eased the cap situation by getting Brady to submit his retirement paperwork after June 1st? Yes, they could have. Why didn't they ask Brady to do that? Because the Glazers have already decided to take the hard cap hit this season instead of spreading it out over several seasons. They have to get the salary cap situation under control in order for the Bucs to be competitive in the future. I think the Glazer's have made a business decision to take a hard hit this season. It is not the stay competitive in the NFL decision for 2023.

yes @ArmyBuc91, that's what happens when you rework contracts and convert salary into bonus. When the player goes the cap hit hangs around.
This is way worse than I or anybody else realized. I don't want to hear about how smart Greenberg is. He and Licht just used future cap years like credit cards. This is maybe the worst cap situation in league history.

I doubt that Greenburg and Licht did this all on their own. Putting the Bucs in salary cap hell for 3 more years was done with the approval, maybe even at the direction of the Glazers.

It could have been the direction of the Glazers. Certainly they had to be consulted, as they would with any major acquisition. It would be hard to believe that Licht didn't go to the Glazers and say "Look if we bring Brady back we're going to have to do X,Y and Z." "Do it."
Looking back, it made sense to push money forward for Brady's second season. But the third? Ownership had way way too much confidence in Bowles and his crony OC Leftwich. Good luck fellas in 2023! So glad we gave up our season passes. This Fall is gonna suck! At least traffic won't be bad leaving the stadium after another loss...
let’s see what would we rather have
(1) 3 straight playoff seasons, Super Bowl win, 2 years where we were essentially favored in 95% of the games. All this with knowledge that Brady is 45 years old and that once he retired, we’d have to bite the bullet and likely suck for 1-3 years afterwards
(2) 10 straight years of no playoffs, rebuild, 2 first round picks on QBs and ample cap space
Im absolutely baffled that we are critiquing the glazers, licht, and Greenberg. 100% of the time you choose option 1. In case you are a new buc fan, option 2 was the post gruden, pre Brady era
Cap situation isn’t ideal.
at least we got a ring out of it.
more then the saints can say.
rams are in a similar boat. Cut Wagner. About to trade Ramsey.
they have no regerts(great snickers commercial) either
