Right. But how is the argument that Glennon COULD flip the switch, a reason not to take a QB early?
because having 2 alleged franchise QBs never seems to materialize or be worth it to the team.
And the opportunity cost. That other 'maybe' QB would cost the 7th overall pick and that pick could be used on a LT or passrusher.
So? Without the right QB none of those positions are going to really matter. Why are teams like the Browns, the Raiders, and the Bucs always picking high? Cause we have crappy QB play!
Do you really think Colin Kaepernick or Russel Wilson would have put this team into the playoffs last year? I don't. Our oline played like crap most of the year and that is the backbone of an offense- even above QB in my opinion.
We need a damn QB. If Manziel, Bortles or Bridgewater are available we need to get one of them.

with one of those two QBs and a competent coaching staff, you are damn right I believe we could have made a serious playoff push. We didn't go 4-12 because of our oline.
So don't draft a QB high because Glennon has a chance at becoming elite? Yeaaa-no. Everyone has a chance. Some player's chances are higher than others
Even the best QB in the world can't do it alone. There are 21 other starters.

If that qb's name is Carr, yeah, I'll pass and take my chances with one of the OT's and shore up a big need for the team.
Amen Moose
The problem with drafting one of these guys other than maybe Teddy, is they are all unproven. You get these great talents with great measurables, and then they flop the second they get in there. Glennon OTOH, you know is going to play reasonably well. Given the circumstances of last season, I think it's fair to say that we saw his floor last season, and it's as a lower-echelon starter/high-end backup. Now his ceiling may be much higher or not higher at all, but we don't know for sure. These other guys though, we don't know for sure they will even reach Glennon's level, regardless of their college careers. It's not like we are looking at five Andrew Lucks here.Taking a QB at 7 is going to be a risk. I think the team will be in love with one particular guy, and if he's available we'll grab him, but if not, we won't reach on another one.
Getting a player like Mack in the 1st and following that up with Garapolo would be amazing.
Bill Polian has promised that Garoppolo will not get outta the 1st round.
I'm 100% sure Jeanine Garafolo ...eerrrrr...Garopollo would not beat out Glennon , not in his rookie year at least.Grass is not always greener...Would you really pass over a dynamic player like Odell Beckham for this little QB from Eastern ?
i dont think it would look like 2 franchise qbs from the outside. if glennon wins, we have a guy that couldnt beat out a 3rd round giraffe with concrete cleats. if the new guy wins, we still are trying to trade a 3rd round giraffe with concrete cleats whom lovie smith and jeff tedford hates and who couldnt complete a pass in the 2nd half. who wants that guy? and, once you trade either one you have lost depth.i would really like manziel, but i dont trust him. i like bridgewater next, but i just wonder about him at the next level. bortles-carr scare me more than anyone. garrapolo is the flavor of the month with carney hands.
So basically you think there no option where the new guy beats out Glennon and we simply keep both using Mike as a cheap backup?Your scenarios show either Mike starts or he's traded, what did he show last year that makes the case he must start or be shifted?
I think the two 'baby' QBs with a vet as insurance is the absolute best way to approach this...Glennon and a rookie will learn with a Vet. Tedford and the qb coach will make it happen. That's the difference in Loves approachAbout offense (IMO) after being booted from Chicago.Who is a Redford vet in the league who is obtainable? (Not named Rodgers). If there is such a guy. He'd be at the head of the line for the vet position

no, my bad. i do think glennon would be great as a backup option. i just dont think he would be good tradebait.
