#9 Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M   This pick all comes down to who is making it. It could be a quarterback if Mark Dominik and Greg Schiano are fired. Considering Schiano is 11-18 and Dominik is 27-49 overall, it is a possibility. However, the Bucs' owners may be comfortable with a mediocre-to-below-average team and retain the regime. If the defensive-minded Schiano survives, he would probably prefer a pass-rusher, but Khalil Mack isn't a good scheme fit. Entering 2014, the regime would be on the hot seat and would need a big season from Mike Glennon. The Bucs have the 31st-ranked offense and their best offensive player, Vincent Jackson, is aging. Evans would do more to help Glennon than a misfit pass-rusher. Evans has been dominant during the 2013 season. The redshirt sophomore has 65 receptions for 1,322 yards with 12 touchdowns. Evans (7-279) absolutely destroyed Alabama and made a lot of difficult catches for big gains along the sideline. While Texas A&M was upset by Auburn, Evans put on a show for NFL scouts. He continued his stellar season with a dominating performance. Evans finished with 11 receptions for 287 yards and four touchdowns against the Tigers. The 6-foot-5, 225-pounder can beat defenses downfield with his mismatch size, the speed to get vertical and his ability to rip off yards after the catch. Evans has insane body control to make acrobatic and contested catches. Because of his size, he is never completely covered. Evans looks like a Vincent Jackson-type receiver for the NFL. Evans had an awesome freshman season last year and overtook Ryan Swope to be the No. 1 receiver for Johnny Manziel. Evans caught 82 passes for 1,105 yards and five touchdowns. http://walterfootball.com/draft2014charlie.php

I don't see why we'd take another big possession receiver when we already have Vjax. I'd much rather prefer a speed guy like Sammy Watkins or Odell Beckham jr.

If he is VJ with speed that's one thing but is he?  The O needs a TE and a WR that truly can take the top off of a defense.  Among other things :)

I think we have to look DE or TE in the 1st and I also wouldn't mind grabbing WR Brandin Cooks from Oregon State to be our slot receiver  if we can find a way back in the 3rd or even late 2nd

I kinda agree but I wouldn't hate this pick. We would be more like Chicago with the big WR's.

Well, Watkins is already off the board in this mock and it's far too early for Beckham.  Still, if I were GM for the day and really wanted a WR, I'd very seriously consider going with Lee in this spot.  Because yeah.  Speed would be kind of nice.  It's admittedly kind of a blah place for the team to be drafting though.  Trading back for anything resembling good value would probably be my preferred option there.

This isn't directed at the OP, and should've been said in the Ebron thread, but I don't get why so many people want a TE in the first round. I get that it is becoming and increasingly more important position, but of the top 10 or so tight ends in the league I think only one, Vernon Davis, was taken in the first round. There have been other first round tight ends but none of them could really be considered dominant. It just isn't a position you absolutely have to spend a premium first round pick on. I will continue to bang the drum for Sammy Watkins since he has the explosive speed to get down field, the quickness to run after the catch, and while it isn't his strength, he also has the size and ability to make possession catches. I also like Marquise Lee, but I am not quite as high on him as Watkins. All of this is only if we decide to go offense, because I still think getting a pass rusher should be the number one priority in this draft.

TE is the current FOTM, that's why.

These tall receivers with massive wing spans are a new requirement for all NFL teams. Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall in CHI is the future. If this kid is that type of player I am on board. Even though I am not thrilled about taking a A WR that high. Times are a changing. Adapt or be left behind.

That's the whole idea. Get as many big receivers as you can who create match up problems. MW19 is more of a possession receiver. VJax and this kid can stretch a defense. Tim Wright also creates mismatches and has good range. The thing is these big receivers don't need elite speed. It has been proven that the big rangy WR with great production in college will translate much better than the smaller speedy guy. Late round picks should be reserved for RB'S and big WR'S who don't necessarily run a 4.4 40.

...and I think for a player of his size that is enough. He is another horseshoes and hand grenades sort of guy. If you sort of prototype WRs and Glennon is our guy I think I'd rather have a Reggie Wayne type guy who has short are quickness, good routes and hands than a Mike Wallace speed type or a big physical downfield guy. I think we want a guy with strong WR skills not just a physical tools guy.
