We've searched for a TE here since the Soldier didn't want to keep his toes on the line...we finally luck into one with Wright, and some of you want to move him to WR. Makes perfect sense.
He's a TE in the same way that Dallas Clark was a TE. I think some of this is nomenclature more than actual responsibility. I don't think he is much of a TE now. You could flank him out and call him a "slot", again the way IND did with Clark or NO does with Graham. It isn't about changing the way we use him but more about changing the way we think about our needs. Call it a 2TE set or a 3WR set when he is in, doesn't much matter.
Love Wright, but is far from a protypical TE. . His blocking is poor, but he has great hands. I think they start him at TE because they don't have anyone better to play there right now. I am hoping they draft a TE very early, Or maybe make a play for one in FA. [Graham]

Wishful thinkin, lol. A TE of Graham's caliber/salary would be wasted here.

TBH, I doubt he makes it to free agency, they will tag him if need be. But never say never. There is already some discord going on between Mickey Loomis and Jimmy Sexton. He wants Graham to be considered as a WR. Because of all the receptions he has. Their motive for doing that, is the WR tag number is higher than the TE tag number. WR 10milTE 6mil
discord = posturingIn the end, Graham isn't going anywhere....and will be paid big jack!!
The Saints will make him the highest paid TE in NFL history. No chance he hits the market. None.

Will be interesting because I have no doubt Graham is gonna push to be paid like a WR not a TE.
I'm sure he will and he he deserves to be. When you average 1100 yards and 12 TDs a season....you should break the mold. I don't think it will change the average pay for all TEs, but if you are clearly elite like Jimmy Graham, or Gronk, or Gonzalez....then you deserve to make bank. Definitely deserve to be in that $10M-$12M range like a WR instead of the $6M-$7M range like other TEs.
Thank God we drafted Myron Lewis, Price and Benn instead of Graham so we don't have to worry about such things.
Yep. We dodged a bullet there!
That's the whole idea. Get as many big receivers as you can who create match up problems. MW19 is more of a possession receiver. VJax and this kid can stretch a defense. Tim Wright also creates mismatches and has good range. The thing is these big receivers don't need elite speed. It has been proven that the big rangy WR with great production in college will translate much better than the smaller speedy guy. Late round picks should be reserved for RB'S and big WR'S who don't necessarily run a 4.4 40.
We have enough big guys between Wright, VJax, and MW19...we need some speed out there. Someone who can break one on a slant or screen. That is the mis-match we are lacking right now.
at the end of the day, its not about position, its about production. He will be one of the highest paid non qbs in the league.
Some interesting thoughts for those of you who think TE is a big need: http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com/2013/10/nfl-scout-texas-ams-mike-evans-would-be-a-better-tight-end-in-the-nfl.html/ Also - this was his player evaluation coming out of HS. He played WR in college bc he was simply the most athletic person A&M had. But his background (basketball star, size to grow) is similar to other prolific TEs such as Gates, Gonzalez and Graham. All of them have that ability to use their bodies and size to box out defenders and catch passes over the middle. Maybe Evans can grow into doing that as well. He's bigger than Wright afterall:
Evans is a mammoth wide receiver that we feel will likely end up as an H-back or tight end at the next level given his frame and significant room for size development. He may simply grow out of being a wide receiver. Has great height and very long arms and actually runs very well given his size. He is a huge mismatch on the jump ball. Catches the football in a crowd and fights for every inch of turf after the reception. Snares the football out of the air with confidence and immediately turns up field slashing between defenders. When he does get pinned in, he will spin or lower his shoulder to get the most out of the play. Possesses adequate-to-good speed and a burst to pull away from defenders. Runs very solid routes and works his way into openings in the coverage. Makes difficult receptions and can turn back to haul in passes thrown behind him. Shows some courage when running the slant or skinny post into traffic. Wins the one-on-one battles and knows when to get up in the air to snatch the football. At the next level, Evans will likely struggle to create separation and burst against top level DB's who are quicker and more explosive. As a potential movement TE, Evans has a ton of upside.NotesCommitted December 2010... 2010: Caught 26 passes for 750 yards and seven touchdowns... Also plays basketball...
I think Evan's looks like TE....and he'll probably be a very good one....but would you really take a guy in the 1st round that you plan on changing positions?

Especially when guys like Ebron and Amaro will probably run as fast at 250 lbs as Evans will at 230.
Exactly.
