Correct me if I’m wrong, someone pointed out that if we franchised Chris Godwin, it’d be the third time and he’d get the qb rate. We did both in 2021 and 2022.
That means the third time he would get 41 mil?
Was reading somewhere if we can’t extend him we will franchise him. At 41 mil?! No chance if that number is accurate.
He’s been tagged twice so won’t be a third time or it will be at tagged QB rate, which is idiotic. Any contract would cost us less.
that may only be for consecutive years but i am not sure
in any event, the Bucs should sign Godwin to at least a 2 or 3 year deal to maneuver the cap.
I expect Godwin will be a hot commodity, despite the injury, this offseason. Particular to a team that may fall short this year - i.e. Baltimore, Buffalo, KC
The Bucs need a #3 WR, not a #2. They can't afford Godwin at the rate he's likely to command. He may come back because he takes a lower amount, or because the Bucs overpay him because of his past service to the team. They need another WR, but they will have to be cheaper than what Godwin would command on the open market.
They’d be foolish not to bring Godwin back. He is a game changer.
we need to improve our defense but not at the expense of Godwin
The Bucs need a #3 WR, not a #2.
thats hard to understand. You're saying, I guess, that Evans, NcMmillan and "x" is likely better than Evans, Godwin and McMillan?
If Godwin is playing against WAS we win
Godwin does. no drop the early pass that McMilan dropped and he helps keep the chains moving the whole game
if Godwin in playing the whole season we like win several more games
Because of Greenberg’s and Licht’s egregious use of void years there’s an $18M dead cap hit if Godwin leaves. Might as well keep him

what they've done is nothing short of magnificent

Lol, egregious? lmao. generally speaking you try to keep your best players

Yeah. All they’ve done is win a SB, a few plays away from appearing in another, and 5-straight playoff appearances.
Remind us of your record as an NFL GM, Captain Cosplay.
Yeah, might as well keep a guy they’d re-sign anyways.
What’s egregious was your uber-dogshit take that Humphries was a “bigger 3rd down weapon” than Godwin.
Fucking clown..
OK head shaker, the Glazers can afford it, so let me rephrase. The NFL has a salary cap. We need to use cap space on defense. To slot in $20 mil for a #3 WR doesn't make sense. You could structure a two or three year deal so the cap hit comes later, but we'll still be getting out from under his last contract. As I said, if Godwin wants to take a team freindly deal then I'm sure something can get done and perhaps he'll do that. But if he wants to get market value I don't think the Bucs can afford that. I mean Ican afford to take a cruise to Australia if I want to sell my house. It might not be a smart thing to do.They can't afford Godwin at the rate he's likely to command.
Smfh…
Yes, they can.
Yes McMillan is a #2 and Godwin is a #3 going forward. No I'm not saying "X" is better than Godwin, but "X" is not going to cost $20 mil a year for three years which is what Godwin can probably get on the open market. We all are trumpeting how much we need to improve the defense, but if you want to put that much of the cap to a #3 WR then people should just shut up about signing Khalil Mack or Hassan Reddick or whatever player they're having wet dreams about. The Bucs need a #3 WR, not a #2.
