Yes McMillan is a #2 and Godwin is a #3 going forwar
a healthy Godwin is playing over McMillan all day long.
I realize his health is in question, but they dont even really play the same kind of role in the offense. McMillan is really promising and I am excited to see what he can become, but he is probably 20 lbs smaller than Godwin and not even close to as physical (or experienced). Also, not in the same universe (so far) in terms of professionalism and commitment.
Now, will Godwin be himself when he returns? I dont know but pretty tough guy to bet against.
ZERO knock on McMillan, more about how good Godwin is when healthy. He was probably on his way to 100 receptions 1200 yds and maybe 10TDs. And he is super clutch. a team leader etc.
people should just shut up about signing Khalil Mack or Hassan Reddick or whatever player they're having wet dreams about.
I am not sure the defense even needs that, but thats what Licht and Greenberg are for.
But, pick someone like Kyle Van Noy he's probably in his 30s and on something like 2yr 10 million and providing double digit sacks. Nick Bonnitto still on rookie deal maybe and just did a Barrett and exploded with double digit sacks. Van Ginkel was a fourth round guy i think.
We have Kancey and Vea and Diaby so its as much about just finding someone better than Nelson and also some LBs and Dbs that can actually cover. The Bucs faced teams than quick passed them to pieces so fix that and the sacks go up, especially if they keep running and playing with the lead
To slot in $20 mil for a #3 WR doesn't make sense.
Godwin isn’t a WR3, so I’m not sure who you’re talking about here.
If Godwin can return to full health and look like he did at the beginning of this season, he's your 2, not even a question. McMillan is coming along well, and I was advocating for him to become a bigger part of the offense early on, but he just doesn't have Godwin's skillset nor does he have Godwin's hands. He may grow into that role a couple years from now, but he ain't him yet.
but if you want to put that much of the cap to a #3 WR then people should just shut up about signing Khalil Mack or Hassan Reddick or whatever player they're having wet dreams about.
Or, you could simply shut the f*ck up versus showing everyone that you have no idea what the hell you’re talking about.
We can easily re-sign Godwin and still create enough cap space to sign a PREMIER EDGE player.
If Godwin was healthy, we don't lose that Washington game.
the entire offense changes. Godwin is a wrecking ball. Dude was on pace for what 1,400 yards and double digit TDs?
the fact that we had a top 5 unit without him for more than half the year means that signing him is like adding a top notch free agent.
How many times have we saw a player follow up their rookie year with a slump, i.e. flash in the pan Michael Clayton.
IF we truly are contending to compete for a Superbowl, you bring Godwin back. If you are just content going 9,10 wins and making the playoffs and losing, then yeah, let him walk.

I'll go even further: if Godwin was healthy, or even if his ankle injury was just some kind of sprain that he returned from instead of season-ending, Tb goes 12-5, at worst, and may have been in the running for best record in the NFC. I think if Godwin was healthy most of the season, TB would've been one of the most dangerous teams in the NFL and a heavy favorite to be in the NFCCG going into the playoffs.

aren't we likely to see several plays redo their deals to help clear cap space?
seems to be a fairly regular occurrence with the Bucs
There isn't a missing piece on defense. There's about half a dozen. And $20 mil is too much for a 3rd WR on a running team. Hopefully Godwin agrees to a team freindly deal, because then his void years won't come due.but if you want to put that much of the cap to a #3 WR then people should just shut up about signing Khalil Mack or Hassan Reddick or whatever player they're having wet dreams about.

If we lose Coen we're going to quickly realize we need him in the slot.
Evans is done after next year most likely... Maybe one more year after that be the decline will be similar to Vincent Jackson.
I’d love Godwin back somewhere around 3 years 60 mil.
obviously the defense needs a makeover.
offense? Maybe LG? That’s about it.
defense we need edge lb cb safety.
Certainly the defense should get majority of our available resources but we need Godwin back imho. McMillan is nice but you can never have too many weapons.
I don't know that Godwin has any more gas left in the tank than Evans when it comes to being a topline receiver- a couple good years left for either of them. Godwin has always played a physical game and that takes it's toll. He takes some big hits, more than Evans does. There isn't a missing piece on defense. There's about half a dozen. Idk about that he's 3 years younger

So, you’re willing to let a WR2 walk for a near $20M dead cap hit.
Great strategy!
Godwin would be a #2 on most teams, but McMillan will be the #2 on this one. It's pretty obvious that he's the man for the job. He was drafted to be Godwin's replacement, let's be honest about that. There isn't a missing piece on defense. There's about half a dozen. And $20 mil is too much for a 3rd WR on a running team

As for Godwin's void money, $7.5 mil dead money will hit the cap if Godwin stays. Another $7.5 mil would be pushed to next year and $3.8 mil the following year. So an additional $11+ mil gets pushed back by resigning Godwin and that would come due if Godwin didn't resign.
Hope that clears it up a bit for you.
Godwin would be a #2 on most teams, but McMillan will be the #2 on this one.
Still pushing this retarded narrative?
I’ll tell you what. If Godwin is re-signed (which will most likely happen; I’ll bet you $1K that he out produces McMillan in yards, TD’s, receptions, and targets.
Deal?
