Jadeveon Clowney predicts 'amazing' numbers at NFL combine By Dan Greenspan College Football 24/7 writer NFL.comPublished: Jan. 18, 2014 at 08:08 p.m.
The 2014 NFL Scouting Combine has its headline attraction. South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney told The State he will participate in all drills next month in Indianapolis."The numbers I am going to put up are going to be amazing," Clowney said.Clowney previously said he ran an electronically timed 4.46 40-yard dash, which would have ranked third among running backs and tied for 11th among wide receivers at the 2013 combine. The difference, of course, is Clowney is 6-foot-6 and has a good 70-90 pounds on those skill position players.NFL Media analysts Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks each have the Houston Texans taking Clowney with the No. 1 overall pick in their initial mock drafts."Clowney can single-handedly destroy game plans with his speed, quickness, athleticism and power off the edge," Brooks said. "Scouts may question his maturity and work ethic based on a few on- and off-field hiccups, but there is little doubt that he is the top defensive prospect on the board."Clowney was also ranked the No. 2 prospect for the draft by NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt, behind Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel. If Clowney lives up to the immense expectations and runs anywhere close to a sub-4.5 40, all the suspense of the draft will start with the second pick because the top spot will be locked up.

He is BPA.
LOL; if he's somehow still there when our pick comes up, it will take some SERIOUS discipline by our new GM to pass. Could also be a GREAT opportunity to trade down and get that #3 pick back we lost in the Revis deal...
He's a rare breed. Size, speed, strength, technique...his technique is severely underrated. People think he's just a speed rusher who relies solely on God given talent. As great of a pass rusher as he is, he's equally effective in run defense. A DE who tackles RBs for losses.
Anyone would be a fool to question his physical skills. And he does appear to be coachable too. If that was all that mattered, no brainer; take him. How he handles some TOUGH questions in interviews, which will be coming, is the key to where he lands in the draft.

If he falls to 7 then next offseason there should be 6 GM openings in the league. I'm slightly over exaggerating there but he won't fall far because of questions.
I basically agree, Bootz. Asking the right questions and not just listening to WHAT he answers, but HOW he answers, gauging things like his attitude towards the interviewer and the question, has become a bigger deal from year to year. If he comes across as being coachable, which I think will be HUGE for him, he'll get picked well before #7, despite any off-field stuff.
Dear God, that's fast for man his size.
1. I don't believe it. 2. I don't care about 40 times for a DE.
i would trade up for that.
I don't think anyone has ever questioned his measurables, isn't his work ethic the reason for a possible slide?
Scout 1: How big are his biceps again?Scout 2: 19 inchesScout 1: We're taking him!
BS. He has a slow first step. He'll probably run in the 4.65 - 4.7 range at the combine. No trade ups, but I'll take a chance @ 7.

This is a lie. Slow 1st step? Complete fiction.

4.46 is Dwight Freeney speed. Clowney plays like a LDE with his awesome 3 sacks this year, and 2 of those sacks were gifts, when he was blocked into the QB, rolling to his side. It sounds like you already bought into the workout warrior hype. Looks like Tarzan plays like Jane.
