I know a lot of fans want Lovie to top this list and honestly I really can't blame them. The team that was put out on the field this season was abysmal. But I think Smith is still a good coach, the defense improved through the latter half of the season and it still sounds like the players are playing for Smith, so I think he gets one more year. BUT, some of the coaches that we have on the staff need to go.1st Hire: Offensive Coordinator. If Smith isn't already looking hard at teams that are firing their staffs next Monday, he definitely should be fired. The most important move this team is going to make this off season is a new offensive coordinator and Smith can't sit on his hands about this. We have some talent on the offensive side and we are going to bring in more via free agency and the draft. It's extremely important that we bring in a proven offensive coordinator as quickly as possible in order to get ready for the start of free agency.Quarterbacks Coach: Nearly as important, the quarterbacks coach needs to be found quickly. Arroyo might be okay in this position because both McCown and Glennon are under contract for at least next season and he knows both. But whomever we put here needs to have the skills to work with a high draft choice next season and develop him properly. Honestly I would rather have a more experienced guy in this position.Offensive Line Coach/Asst Offensive line coach: I'll be really, really disappointed if next Monday we don't hear that Warhop was given his release. This is the second most important hire Smith has to make and again, the quality coaches will be snapped up fast after Black Monday. Smith better have already started courting this position coach. Both coaches need to go.Running Backs Coach: I know the line was miserable this year, but the backs in general didn't do much on their own. Please bring back Ernest Byner!Special Teams Coach: Honestly, there was very little that was special about special teams this year. The started out bad, but did get better in that they cut penalties and bonehead plays back a bit. But after years of having very good special teams, this last season was horrible in comparison. I wasn't a fan of O'Dea to begin with, I'm less of one now. As far as the wide receivers and tight end coaches go, for the most part I thought they seemed like they did okay. I wasn't happy that ASJ wasn't developed more than what he was, but injuries could have been what kept him back and not coaching. Obviously, Mike Evans seemed to develop well. The receivers as a whole seemed to do their jobs well enough. Both of these coaches deserve to stay.I really have no complaints about the defensive side of the ball. As I mentioned, the defense progressed during the season and given that they were getting no help from the offense and they were learning a new defensive system, I honestly think the defense will be better next season.JMO.
