Its the INTERPLAY between running and PASSING that Coen exploits so you cant essentially eliminate one part of the equation

good one
I dint know Coen was the OC in the 2019 game
This is kind of outside the box, but I think Coen should design some plays with Irving and White on the field at the same time. Line them both up in the backfield, and then send one or the other in motion toward slot or out wide.
Uh, he has already. They're calling it their pony package. Now, most of the time he has Bucky lined up wide with White in the backfield, obviously for pass pro, but he's lined them up with both oof them in the backfield as well.

It's a waste of time.

shameless sack won't ever admit it
Your theory may very well be right.

bucs website:
"As noted above, Coen wants to present defenses with personnel packages and presnap looks that look very similar, only to have many different concepts to run and throw out of them."
Website speak?
This is Josh Q
"Bucs now rank 23rd overall in 1st down neutral situation pass rate (42.2%). 1st in epa/pass in those situations (.491) 6th in epa/rush (0.033) In short, the Bucs are really good on 1d when either throwing or running the ball. I'd still like them to be a bit more pass heavy."
:-)
and this about their running against the Panthers
"Q1: 11 rushes - -0.0155 epa/rush - 45.5% sr Q2: 5 rushes - -0.379 epa/rush - 20% sr Q3: 5 rushes - +0.216 epa/rush - 20% sr Q4: 13 rushes - +0.346 epa/rush - 61.5% sr OT: 4 rushes - 0.488 epa/rush - 25% sr"
Mayfield:
"“The run game always helps out your pass game,” Mayfield said. “When you’re able to control the line of scrimmage, when your guys are breaking tackles like our guys are and those holes are opening up, so it opens up the pass game.”
Yeah, if (when?) Mike is back to fulk speed - and if you can get Otton & one of the other receivers to start getting in a groove (JMac?)…then your pass game really opens up…but while I don’t fully look for that until we get to The fighting Harbaugh’s, we’ve got to get someone else involved to take the heat off of Mike.
Until then - pound that rock!

Thanks for noting that. I thought I was a genius OC for a minute there...NOT!

Josh Q today
”And Coen is more inclined to call a run on early neutral downs than he is to call a pass. The Bucs are now 23rd in the NFL in neutral first down pass rate at 42.2%, showing an almost identical split to their 21p run/pass divide. His ability to match this to his overall play-calling tendencies reduces the chances that opposing teams can key in on any specific tells and helps keep the package fresh and difficult to defend.”

The pony package is a good part of the game plan for the Bucs this season.

Up 14 at midfield
2nd and 3, incomplete
3rd and 3, sack turnover
It’s the interplay!!!!
our fast WR screens are becoming predictable, especially on third and long. in the beginning of the season those worked great, now defenses are expecting them and if they reaact fast enough those might turn into pick six.
apart from that play calling is good, if we could limit those penalties (refs are even helping last two games) we have a real shot at the playoffs!
This game a disaster for Coen again. We're only winning these games because we're playing vs 3-10 and 2-11 teams that are fumbling, missing FGs, etc.
Early 2nd qtr up 14-0, ball at Raiders 44.
2nd and 3, incomplete pass.
3rd and 3 (keep in mind this 4 down territory), pass, sack, fumble.
Leads to a Raiders TD.
2nd and 1 at Raiders 37. Pass, Holding.
2nd and 1 at Raiders 20 after a Tucker 9 yard run, pass INT.
1st and 15 after White has 2 runs for 19 yards, pass pass pass punt.
He finally calls a run on 2nd and short and Tucker pops it for 34 yards and ends the game.
In a game we were leading the entire way, getting consistant vertical displacement in the run game he was 60% pass, 40% run. There really isn't anyway to defend him anymore, we're #2 in yards per carry and he refuses to run the ball.
Tucker has 15.7 yards per carry yesterday but he only had 3 carries.
