“Per multiple sources…I’m told that the Bucs front office had not heard from Liam Coen or his agent all day today. But Liam Coen did reach out to Todd Bowles to inform him that he was interviewing with Jacksonville. By the time he did reach out, Bowles already knew about it.”
Yep. He’s gone. Jacksonville fired their GM yesterday and flew Coen in. They’ve been negotiating all day and the Bucs front office hasn’t been able to get a hold of him.
He should be gone because it’s such a bad look to announce staying, ghost the team and then interview there.
don’t want to trash your rep completely so take the $ and run, unfortunately
interesting to eventually learn the back story.
@bucsbits - I hear you. But we also don’t know what Jacksonville is offering and it’s hard to pass on a head coaching job. There are only 32 of them. Our fault if he becomes the next McVay or Shanahan. We’ll forever be known as the team that let him go in favor of Bowles who we fired a year later.
He’s gone though because you don’t ghost the Bucs but then comment to Schefter
“Liam Coen said he reached out to Bucs HC Todd Bowles to inform him of his interest in interviewing for the Jaguars head coaching job.” - Schefter
Yeah he’s gone
He played us too. Used the extension as leverage to fire the GM
best of luck to him.
our OC job should be a highly pursued position with our talent
Wonder what we go with
Stroud - “Coen had not spoken to the Bucs since yesterday afternoon. They tried to reach him and have been unable to. Instead of signing his contract, which was a formality, he secretly traveled to Jacksonville to meet with Jags owner Shad Kahn.”
“To be clear, the Liam Coen contacted head coach Todd Bowles around 5 p. m. Thursday. He said he had been with one of his kids, who had taken ill, at a doctors office. He mentioned the Jaguars situation only briefly, saying he wanted to look back into it.”
stroud
What a fucker. That means he's gone.
What a shitty way to end this...
Seems like he burned his bridges here...
And we're stuck with Bowles... And we're now behind on choosing OC
“This thing just keeps getting crazier… Sources say Robert Saleh just landed in Jacksonville for what was supposed to be an interview tomorrow with the #Jaguars.
I don’t think this contingency would be true but if it was the yeah Corn is dead to the Bucs
More detail on the Liam Coen situation—the Buccaneers offered a 3-year deal on Monday to make their OC the highest-paid coordinator in NFL history. It was contingent on him not taking the second interview with the Jags. Which is the reason for the secrecy on the Jax visit.”
If this is true then it all makes sense
”So what changed for Liam Coen? He got on the plane to Jacksonville after Jags' ownership called him directly and explained they will let him pick the general manager and would pay him "Ben Johnson" level money along with multiple years, per sources.”
Can't say the Bucs didn't do anything to try to keep him around. But short of making him head coach there's nothing the Bucs could do. I don't think he gets to unilaterally pick the GM, but he probably has a say in it.
