there you have it...our new head coach in 2026!

Assuming they bring back Godwin and improve the talent on defense through some signings, Bucs will have to not only make the playoffs but win a game, maybe even two for Bowles to be considered to remain coach in 2026

In January 2026, he will have 1 year left on this deal.  Unlikely Bucs have him coach as a lame duck so they will either extend or "promote up" out of the position like they did with Arians.

And i am sure this was a point to Coen in the negotiations that he would have first dibs at this organizations head coaching position in relatively short order.

Quite frankly, i am not sure what Bowles could do to earn that extension after the 2025 season.  I am guessing it's the playoff success, but if it resembles anything like this year with a top 5 offense and bottom 10 defense, then yeah, the Bucs will go at Coen's career goals - again, assuming, that this year wasn't a fluke

Like I’ve said all year, he wasn’t going anywhere.

Happy to be wrong on this one. Thank God

I've always thought it makes sense for both sides for Coen to stay, but he took a 2nd interview and as TKraz said you don't take a second interview if you don't intend to take the job if offered.  But apparently it was part of the bargaining process for his pay increase here.

And the Jags must be a little miffed.  They try to hire a head coach and all he was doing is bargaining for more pay as an OC!  The second time a Bucs coach has left the Jags at the altar!  Ouch.

well the Jaguars situation isn't a good one.  Lawrence is more closer to Daniel Jones than he is Baker Mayfield.  Four years in and his best season was his second season.

Reminds me a little of Jameis Winston.  then after year 4, a new head coach came in to try and fix him in Arians, they moved on the following year

looks like Jacksonville stuck with Lawrence at least the next 2 seasons and if he doesnt improve from his current trajectory, that would be enough for Coen to be 1 and done as head coach and take him another 10 years to get a gig, i.e. Raheem Morris

he'd be foolish to go to Jacksonville.  Chicago or Dallas i could have seen as good options.

congrats to TB and their fans.  And me, lol.

And Baker, who for the first time in 3 years, will not have to learn a new system and will have the same OC for consecutive seasons.

Looking forward to next season with high hopes.

LGBs!!!!

I think the "coach-in-waiting" clause is a bit of a fictional thing, but clearly Coen sees something in the opportunity in Tampa

Liam Coen gets an extension and a raise with Tampa Bay, but according to people with knowledge of the contract details, there is no “coach-in-waiting” clause for Coen with the Bucs. This is about continuing to build in Tampa as one of the league’s highest-paid OCs.

This is intriguing. So, outside of Team Glazer loot (always an important factor) Coen, 39, really had no other professional incentive outside of personal relationships and maybe a chance to make a Super Bowl run in 2025 to turn down a head coaching gig with another No. 1 overall pick at quarterback.

and maybe JBF is bot taking into account the "Baalke-is-waiting" reality, but if that was it Coen likely just interviews elsewhere

I said earlier I don't know what he sees in that job unless they're paying him well. Really happy to see the team step up and keep him here. Great move and start to the offseason!

"The Glazers, Jason Licht, Baker, Todd Bowles, and Mike Greenberg, who was a first round interview for the Jets GM job, all deserve credit in getting Liam Coen to return to Tampa Bay. This has been in the works and a testament to the leadership and what they're building in TB."

"Liam Coen’s deal is believed to be similar to that of Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, who reportedly earns $4.5 million per year"

Man the Jags are one dysfunctional organization. Lets wait until all the top GM/Coaching options are gone before we fire the Gm we should have got rid of weeks ago.

@bchaves8 we were there at one point. Chip Kelly walked right in and out on us at one point. He wasn't even that great.
