Ledyard and Josh Q said that Grizz seems to be throwing shots deeper because they dont have the O-line to sustain drives like last year. In other words, they are compensating by taking more shots, but that alos brings down 3rd down efficiency etc.
so different offense less by design or choice than circumstances
Pointed out that Mayfield is one of the highest frequency deep passers and had doubled his 20+ air yard throws versus last year.
and doing it all without a true blazer deep threat
Just my 2c, I dont feel like our offense has any rhythm...yet (hopefully).

that is sort of the subtext of Ledyard and Josh Q, the massive shakeup of the Oline has hampered their ability to get into a rhythm so they've been taking shots
Hopefully that changes as the line gets healthier
Coen is still coaching very well and has the Jags winning.
Grizz is middle of the pack.
Bowles is still Bowles but last week he quietly pitched a great game on defense
Grizz is middle of the pack
Definitely but not sure it's on him. I already pointed out the change in the passing game because of the line injuries. Here's another one right from Grizz
"Cade and [Durham and Culp are] being selfless and being able to be in that alignment to try to help out on some of the protections where [Otton is] not necessarily getting out into a route, or if it is a route, it’s not something that’s vertical down the field,” Grizzard said. “So that’s really where that’s coming from.”

Spot on.

To some extent I agree but it also just sounds like excuses. His play calling has been very conservative and he's still has weapons in Bucky and Egbuka. Baker is extending drives with his legs.
Both of the big TD throws last week were improv scramble drill...
The offense has been middle of the pack but too much of that offense isn't a result of the play calling but rather backyard football.
Grizz will learn but it's been a rough start

so that ^^ is sort of the basic football mantra and I get it. Every team has injuries" etc. But, injuries obviously matter and in many ways. Easy to prove. If we held a poll today and asked the Red Board who they would rather see go out for the season between Wirfs and, say, Vildor . . we all know how that poll turns out.
Grizz might turn out to be a terrible OC -- already COMPARED TO LEFTY (lol) by the football smart set - but at a minimum there has to be some recognition that he's been OC without last years O-line and without Godwin (who tore it up as Coen's #1 receiver) and even without HOFer Evans . . the truest #1 receiver if ever there was one :-)
As you said in another post, Irving looks to be out and that might narrow the playbook a bit . . (1/2 page that it is , supposedly). Narrowing the playbook is limiting the offense, so by definition the injury to Irving has a real impact (ie not just an excuse)
Appreciate though that the traditional football standard is "injuries = excuses"
I just hope to see a game where Grizz has most of the weapons available to him . . at least before we call him Lefty!
In the 2024 season, Grizzard was in charge of the Buccaneers' third-down packages. That means that COEN the offensive guru chose to have Grizzard in charge of 3rd downs.
The Bucs were one of the best converting just better than 50%.
Its early, but this season they are probably at something closer to 35%
I doubt Grizzard forgot how to design 3rd down plays. My guess would be that injuries are playing some role

Just to this point, Mayfield YPA is actually down so far, 6.5 versus 7.9. Shorter passes equal more completions, but Baker was 71% completion rate in 2024 and is sub 60% at the moment.
But our lead back YPC is down too, substantially. Irving was 5.4 YPC in 2024 and is only 3.3YPC in 2025, so far.
Both of those things could be BAD PLAYS or BAD PLAY CALLING, but doesnt it seem more likely its the injuries to the line that would lead to more pressure, less YPC and then substantially lower 3rd down conversion?
it is at least a possibility?
Pretty solid test this week against Seattle. Not feeling great about it but we can win with the players we have too. Injuries suck too.

Yeah, it will.
On the road, WC game.
Their defensive line will be a huge problem.
Seahawks, when using stunts with their DL:
• 21.3% usage (7th)
• +26.4% pressure difference (1st)
Not a good recipe for our interior IOL.
Need to get the ball out quick and stop with the frequency of long developing pass plays.
Quick outs, quick slants, mesh/rub concepts, etc.
The Bucs and Grizz have done a good job keeping our offense in the games despite all the injuries. The defense played great vs the Eagles.
As others point out, other teams have injuries. The 49ers have similar problems the Bucs have on offense, yet arrived at 4-1 last night vs the Rams in OT with MAC JONES at QB, and the cupboard bare at WR.
"Per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Bucky Irving is expected to miss Week 5 with his foot injury and is in danger of missing the Week 6 matchup with San Francisco."
Pretty solid test this week against Seattle.
They have a very good defense, but the structure of it is similar in some ways to Bowles (false pressure, zone blitz etc) so Grizz should be used to it.
And I agree we can still win. Intrigued to see how Godwin plays. if you take away all his misses/drops versus the Eagles and put in his regular production we might win that one, so here's to hoping he just gets stronger and stronger
