I’ve been trying to pump the brakes on Bowles and not come to any rash conclusions, but I’m starting to come around. His exotic pressures work, if everything else goes right and the guys up front can get home. But it hasn’t been that all year. This D was supposed to take the next step this year, but it’s damn near worst in the NFL. Coen on the other hand has been finding ways to make things work regardless of the situation. Baker has a lot to do with that though too. Time to pull a Koetter
Ideal situation would be to demote Bowles to DC, Keep Coen at OC and hire Bellichick as HC for a year or two. OK demoting a coach rather than firing him - I don't know if that's ever happened. But Bellichick is a great game manager. He could focus on that aspect, which is what we need. Coen could be the heir apparent which would keep him in the stable. Licht could continue as GM, which is something Bellichick was not good at. Bellichick gets a chance to break the wins record. Could be a win win for all involved (except Bowles).Big trouble if we lose Coen
Not happening.
As for Bowles, in the end you have to win. He lost to Atlanta twice. We weren't expecting a Superbowl but beating Atlanta or at least splitting with them was crucial and we didn't do it at least in part because of the coaching. For Bowles to save his job now he has to make the playoffs. He can lose to SF but he'll have to basically run the table from there. I don't even know if he'll survive a 10-7 season if he misses the playoffs because the record against Atlanta is 0-2. And a late run against rebuilding teams isn't going to save him because the same thing happened last year.
and Bowles could be amenable to it because he'd be working under Bellichick. This would be face-saving for Bowles. Hey I got fired but I'm the DC for the greatest HC in the history of the game. This would be something for the resume which could get him in line for a future HC job if the team had success in the post season.Ideal situation would be to demote Bowles to DC, Keep Coen at OC and hire Bellichick as HC for a year or two. Smh 🤦♂️

Bowles is 62? 61?
He's probably thinking this contract with the Bucs is it, maybe an extension form the Bucs but no else.
I also doubt he want to be mentored :-)
#13 in your program, #1 in your heart
13) Liam Coen, OC, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Dave Canales secured the Panthers’ head coaching job in 2024 after revitalizing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offense in 2023.
Liam Coen, who replaced Canales as Tampa Bay’s play-caller this offseason, is doing an even better job this year.
Through nine weeks, the Bucs rank fifth in the NFL in offensive EPA per play (0.09), worlds better than the -0.03 mark they posted in 2023. And it’s not just efficiency — Coen has also coaxed a more productive performance on a down-to-down basis. Tampa Bay ranks second in offensive success rate (52.3%), trailing only Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.
He's about to turn 61. Bruce Arians coached until he was 70 and only quit because of health issues. Tony Dungy retired when he was 67. Kiffin coached into his late sixties as Bucs DC. I don't think he is anywhere close to voluntarily retiring. I think relatability based on age is overblown. Arians and Andy Reid have shown that age does not prohibit someone from being able to relate to players. Some young coaches have no ability to relate to players. Bowles is physically healthy enough and I don't think he has any intention of retiring from football. Sure if he could plop himself onto a network show and be a TV analyst he'd probably do that. Based on his press conferences I'd have to say the chances are pretty slim in that regard.this would be something for the resume which could get him in line for a future HC job if the team had success in the post season.

Obviously, Bowles doesn't want to give up being the HC. But if he is fired, then what should he do? Someone in the NFL will offer him a DC job, but what if it was the Bucs? They are his players. Bowles has been the DC of a Superbowl winning team. And again, it would be unthinkable... unless it was under the best coach in NFL history. Stranger things have happened... ok maybe not. But I'd like to see it.

you should read SR's article
I looked at it quickly back when it was published and now I can't find it. I seem to remember it was about how the offensive assistant coaches are younger, and the defensive coaches are older and just aren't doing the job. Bowles' age is not a problem, but as SR has said multiple times Bowles is loyal to a fault. If he's too loyal to familiar faces and familiar ideas and not willing to see that changes need to be made with players or coaches, then that is a problem.I think relatability based on age is overblown. He legit said in a presser last year that Devin White was the 2nd best defensive player on the team.
He should’ve been shitcanned on that alone.
@catherder there is 0% chance Bowles takes a demotion… or that the Bucs even ask him. Either they stick with him at HC or fire him. I’m all for the 🔥.

Isn’t that “coach speak?”
Seems your rule is a little .. um.. flexible

Spot on.
If Bowles is fired or demoted I think we need an offensive minded HC.
keep Bowles as DC or get someone that can.
HCs can not and should not be DCs.
can you think of one that has done that and has done that well? I cannot.
after losing canales last year(still shocked by that. even when he interviewed I was like yeah right no way) losing coen id give a better chance than not he leaves sadly. Hope we either give him a raise or promote him.
last thing baker needs is a new offensive system and OC for yet another year. Again.
