Camp Notes: Collins is silencing critics August 2, 2014 by Gil Arcia When Anthony Collins signed a five-year, $30 million contract during the free agency period, many felt as though Tampa Bay got an unproven starter to protect their quarterback’s blindside. To this point in training camp, Collins has done nothing but shut down defenders. Collins has looked like a stonewall at left tackle. Whether it’s one-on-one or full team scrimmages, the former Cincinnati Bengal has shut down his teammates. As this week progressed, it’s almost as if Collins has gotten stronger. He was seen shutting down defensive ends Da’Quan Bowers and Michael Johnson — who was also one of the Bucs big free agent pickups and a former teammate of Collins with the Bengals.During Friday night’s practice, it was much of the same. Good battles during one-on-ones among the former Cincinnati teammates as well as against other ends. Once the 6-foot-5, 315-pound veteran locked them up, their spins, uppercuts, and bull rush moves were no match.Collins is displaying the abilities that general manager Jason Licht and head coach Lovie Smith saw that many didn’t at first. Now that we’ve hit training camp, others are able to see the same things. And he is not disappointing. link
