I can't deny the kid has great athleticism and is fearless, but I just worry about him being able to translate that to becoming a successful NFL quarterback.

No worries about Clowney getting paid and shutting it down?

Not really, since 1st round picks don't even get paid much, relative to what people talk about when a player "gets paid"If you think Clowney's master plan is to play football really well just so he can get that first rookie contract making 3 million a year (go look up how much Charles Johnson is making) then either you think Clowney is an idiot or you're an idiot.

Mike Williams and VJax are custom built for Hail Johnny's!  He doesn't just scramble around and chuck it. You watch an ESPN clip and assume too much. I have watched him play. A lot. He is a good QB with a fiery rep. He can throw. He can run. He can sell tix. He is a good teammate. Roll em!I am not aboard the Bore-tlezzzz Express. I think he can be a McNabb type player at his peak. A good player. He just doesn't inspire me as a fan. But that is my mere coupon. I think Teddy B is a game manager type. He can become a Drew Brees like at his peak. But I can't see it personally. I would draft Manziel. He has that "it" factor. Two minutes left and he has the ball?  You know that sounds awesome!

My concerns with JFF have very little to do with his height, his arm or his potential fragility.    Great QBs tend to be serious students of the game...willing to commit significant time to study and preparation.    (Manning, Brady, etc).  Before I would consider drafting JFF, I would want to know how committed he is to working on his skills, and whether he has the propensity to commit the time necessary to film study and preparation needed to be a consistently great QB.

So what was Clowney's motive for having a relatively lackluster season?Wasn't that about the NFL money?  Hmmm...We know Manziel loves ballin. Does Clowney?

THIS x1 millionThat's the part I'm not willing to risk on him at #7 or in the top 10.

I tend to think that Manziel is a student of the game. But IF he is like Akili Smith, teams will find out quickly.

I certainly don't want to learn that JFF is a Ryan Leaf/Akili Smith AFTER we've spent a #1 on him.  There has to be some background research you can do to identify his wilingness to 'do the work'....because while his athletic talents let him excel in college...those same athletic talents alone will not allow him to be great in the big leagues.  The league has been littered with tremendous athletes who didn't have the mental game to succeed.

OK, look... seriously....everyone needs to let the Aaron Rodgers thing go. Every team in the league can look back at some point in their draft history and find a HUGE mistake. Hindsight is 20/20. It's very easy to go years later and look back and say "we should have done this or that."Manziel is not likely to drop to #7. Which means we would need to trade probably up to the #2 spot to get him. That would require 2 firsts and a 2nd just to get the Rams interested in an offer, and then probably more to beat out any other team that might be trying to move up too. So you are really mortgaging your future with such a pick.I understand some Bucs fans are incredibly obsessed with getting a flashy "franchise QB." But are you willing to give away basically two drafts to get a guy that is frankly not a sure thing? This is NOT Andrew Luck we are talking about here.

2 drafts? Exaggerate much?

Not sure what you think the cost would be to move to 2, but that's not much of an exaggeration.  1&2 This year and next at a minimum.  That's the top of your draft for two years right there and we don't have a third this year.  Add in another first and yeah, I'd say that is at least two drafts you won't have a real shot at an elite player after.

I think it will be found out long before the draft.

EXACTLY!!!!Next year might the year to make that kind of move for a QB... Not this year.

a guy like Luck would never be for sale.

All these people wanting a "high risk high reward" pick are the sames ones that will piss and moan and berate the team if that pick doesn't work out.

Can't win crap without one and you can't get one if you don't try.  Plus it would give me some extra interest in the team watching and hoping he turns out.  The NFL hates a coward.  I'm not big on Manziel but for Teddy or Bortles I would take the chance.

I think you quoted me by mistake, but I'm not a fan of Clowney at all. I live in Columbia, SC and have heard stories about how immature and reckless he is. I think he's going to bust big time.

Two thoughts:1. Mental discipline is the one thing an NFL QB needs EVERY GAME to succeed. Lesser mental skills and discipline cannot be compensated for by any amount of humanly possible physical skills. 2. Does anyone seriously think Lovie Smith would give up multiple #1's+ to trade up for ANY one player in his 1st year as our HC after telling the world we can make a fast turnaround from last season? I think he meant THIS season, not down the road...     I would be extremely surprised if we traded up. We got way too many holes to fill, and we need draft picks to do it.
